It lives...
My world spawn house is almost as is from the start, other then added crafting benches as time goes on:

Next set of homes made was just to get a fast travel point, used to be forest but adapted into hallow to free up the pylon:

Then I made a beach house that took so long to actually unlock the pylon for that I had an easier way to get there long before:

Next was a cave home that I put close to the bottom of the world:

The cold front has a disco in the basement. Yes those colored lights do flash, it's terrible, but I don't live there:

I made a tree for the jungle:

And finally I got really lazy with themes and just made a pyramid:

I used my birthday year, month, day and time (in military time) as a seed for a large master mode world and this world gen is amazing. First off, we have the longest minecart runs I've ever seen, 3 of them, 2 of which are still unexplored fully. The first extends from deep in the desert almost to the snow biome, and the second deep into the snow biome.

And then this funky dungeon entrance with two living trees nearby, one of which extends into the dungeon passage. Fortunately, this is still well above the guardian spawn area.

I may post more later.

Town Pics!

First one is my "main base"/Forest Biome town. I made it a bit west of spawn because I thought there would be a good cave system there based on some open ground. Turned out not to be the case. I really like the red brick bar at the top, although the Tavernkeep is currently elsewhere so my Pylons work. I'm not sure the 3 different stone types look all that good but I wanted a way to distinguish between the 3 phases of building. If anyone else has any suggestions to improve the visuals I'd love to hear them.

Next we have Cactus Town out in the Desert. This was my first pylon base so it doesn't look the greatest but it gets the job done. The area under the nurse leads to the Underground Desert but I haven't explored there yet so it remains to be seen if that's the best access point.

Jungle Kingdom is starting to look much better. Also includes a stairway to heaven to access the nearby Sky Chests. The empty structure at the bottom was the original Jungle Fishin' Hole that I built to fish in peace without bats harassing me. Still does a good job when I want to do some fishing.

Since the Angler's such a little poo poo I built him a housing complex out in the middle of the ocean. It's all palm wood and themed torches. I originally made the Demolitionist's house really big because I wanted to set a crafting station there but decided against it.

And finally the one I'm most proud of, Cave Town! I converted an abandoned underground house into the first dwelling and then got really into working with Granite. Originally I was going to use granite platforms too but they made the whole area really dark so I switched back to wood. The only thing I don't like is how dim the granite-themed lights are.

The next town I'll likely work on is an artificial mushroom biome in key areas to the west (mainly the Dungeon). All of these towns are east of the main base, making going east easy but going west a real pain in the rear end.

Yeah, I was planning on it once I have the ability to make grass walls, which I like a bit more than leaf ones. I can't do actual progression since I'm playing on a set schedule with some friends so I'm stuck with the super early game materials right now. Same reason why I'm using lovely dirt lines to spread grass instead of seeds. Eventually I want to change the materials of the house and add in some floating clouds. Trying to incorporate a waterfall somewhere would be nice but I'm not sure I gave myself enough room.

Good to know flowers/tall grass won't grow with a glass background though. I had no idea. Could try to use grass walls to make some background shrubs which would allow flower growth below them.

Server Side Character. It's a TShock feature.

quote:

Server Side Characters is a special mechanism designed for Terraria servers that forces players to start with fresh characters when they join. This means they lose all of their items. This is purely server-side, though, it will not affect their actual Singleplayer character. Server Side Characters are what you need if you wish to prevent people from bringing in items from other servers and/or singleplayer and force them to start from scratch.

Draax said this in the discord, though; unknown whether it'll be in place.

Draax posted:

Server Side Character saving. Sort of like a mmo, if I can get the newest Tshock uploaded on server host, new version came out and they have not updated it yet.

Magical Storage is one of the best quality-of-life mods out there. It basically lets you put all your storage and crafting into one place instead of a system of chests.

No planning went in, obviously. It started as the bottom level, then I added on a few apartments above, then just went with the pyramid. The chests and poo poo were on the bottom level but I made the cloud thing to make it easier to craft and stuff. I'm eventually gonna expand on that and delete the pyramid and figure out all this happiness trash and put people where they should. Also planning an art gallery for all the paintings and statues I find.

Just how I do things.

For what it's worth, Journey mode helps with this a ton - just shove everything into research instead of actually storing it in chests, delete any extra, and then duplicate what you need when you need it. Especially for the random junk everyone typically throws in chests, it doesn't feel like cheating because you're just removing the tedium of gathering building supplies, or it's stuff like old armor/weapons/accessories that you were realistically never going to take out of the chest and use again.

yeah i genuinely can't stress how good a system the research in journey mode is. you can selectively use it how you want for whatever items you want, and it removes all the pointless busywork involved with making large quantities of certain things. also that and decorative stuff typically only needs 1 of it to duplicate it further, so building and designing becomes INCREDIBLY easy instead of a chore that you have to decide to engage in and fund with a bunch of annoying grinding.

Something that does already work is the Terraria Tweaker tool, which lets you hack stuff like an increased pickup range or higher maximum stacks into the game. I really, really like it when accessories on extended farming expeditions stack up to 9999 units. Even the Void Vault can only contain so much overflow.

Agreed. The only thing it needs is an option to disable pick up on items you’ve already researched.

Reading all these posts about Journey Mode makes me feel like I've wandered into a den of those nofap guys. "You remember how you used to be able to masturbate alone, but then you got addicted to porn and couldn't get aroused without, but then you kept searching for that bigger and bigger rush, sullenly and joylessly masturbating for hours on end?" And I'm just like "Uhh... no?"

Like, all I hear is "It really cuts out all the tedious grinding and busywork," and I can't recall single time in 400 hours that I've done any grinding. Okay, that's a lie, I really wanted an Ankh Shield so I spent a couple hours fighting skulls in the Dungeon, got fed up, looked it up and saw that they only drop from small skulls, which are rare in Hardmode (thankfully, this is apparently no longer the case), so I stopped. Like, did/do people really sit down and go "Well, time to spend hours and hours getting thousands of dirt, a critical part of the Terraria gameplay?" Easily getting the materials for a megaproject is one thing, but infinite ammo, money, and health doesn't seem to be 'cutting out the tedium' so much as 'watching a YouTube video.'

if someone wants to make a big construction project and decorate it, it kind of takes a lot of materials. it's really not that difficult to understand and doesn't require comparison to porn-poisoned masturbators

and with the research mode you can literally just pick and choose what you duplicate. maybe use self-restraint???????? like, gently caress, i dunno.
