I'm getting into Derrick Beckles' stuff today and it's pretty great\anxiety-inducing. At first I thought he was maybe aping the style of Eric Andre, but I looked him up and he predates Andre, Vic Berger, Tim & Eric, etc. He made TV Carnage in the early 90s and weirdly (though appropriately, the more I think about it) the Truth anti-smoking ad campaign. The two shows of his I've seen on the Adult Swim app are Hot Package (a satire of entertainment news programs like Extra), and Mostly 4 Millennials (another satire, this time of youth-targeted variety shows); both are fairly short series, both worth your time. Mostly 4 Millennials is maybe the most interesting, because it's less a satire of youth culture, and more a satire of out of touch producers who may or may not be purposefully making xenophobic propaganda.

There’s a good companion piece in that episode of Preppers with a network engineer who pretty much blindsides his bride from Columbia that he’s a nutcase who’s going to tutor on how to survive a total American economic collapse by shacking in acres of boonies he bought. She’s completely perplexed by how fearful he is given his well to do lifestyle.

I can't find a clip of it but he literally springs it on her from like picking her up at the airport. It's incredible because he's completely unprepared and planned to live out of some flimsy rear end RV or whatever, and the poor woman is just in shock and awe the entire time that Americans are this loving deranged. Really jawdropping stuff.

Also, predators trying to predator (and usually importing a nut twice as canny as them), but if it’s a bummer of a show it’s not because it’s about “demon crackers” but more because the world we’ve constructed and what it does (and doesn’t do) to people’s brains is profoundly sad.

i just watched the he-bro clip from wonder showzen and the ending definitely had a xavier renegade angel vibe to it i love wonder showzen and the heart she holler but xavier renegade angel achieved something other worldly i remember getting high on ambien and weed to really get on xaviers level, mostly the ambien did it

its clever because the callback to their stupid conversation earlier in the movie doesnt actually solve the problem at all it just kind of bewilders the bad guy who responds by going back to his original plan that didnt involve taking a hostage then whedon started making tv shows slash movies where these kinds of idiotic plans not only work without a hitch but the characters go out of their way to gush about how brilliant and smart these plans are because the bad guy never saw it coming and then everyone started copying him Some Guy TT has issued a correction as of 13:09 on May 22, 2020 |

I watched "Into The Night" on NetFlix and thought it was pretty good - the apocalyptic concept is very reminiscient of one of my favorite ever episodes of The Outer Limits, and the writing makes full use of the fact that it's a fairly diverse cast.

I’m really enjoying having missed most of the last five years of random poo poo Adult Swim bankrolled until this quarantine.
