Worth remembering sometimes that population density is just a proxy for the amount of interactions per person, per day. If a culture is relatively ubiquitous it can work, but if there are significant cultural differences in the way people interact with each other then you can't really use population density between two groups as your proxy. It's the hypothetical of who has a higher infection transmission rate, 6 old ladies who have bridge every Wednesday and talk constantly, or 50 goons who only go to the grocery store once a month?
