You can stack massive numbers of bonuses on it, though, so even a flat 1 in Shivers can pass it without much trouble (you might need to savescum it if you get really unlucky though and snake eyes after filling out every possible bonus).

People mention that shivers check a lot, but aren't there also a bunch of other mandatory checks throughout, like the rhetoric check during the back and forth between Klasse and Titus to convince him he's being manipulated

On parts that made me tear up, discovering the dice maker in the cursed business district was so oddly beautiful and sad that it got to me. Shifting through all that failed ambition was pretty compelling

You don't actually need to pass that check. If you do all the sidequests it refers to and still fail Rhetoric just says "Hmm, yes, you did fail, but let's actually move the game along".

i think i just finished rene's sidequest

he's a war hero, and he tells you about a massively heroic thing he did, for which he was awarded a medal. you then tell him a story, of how you got shitfaced drunk, and compare it to be equal to his story. he sardonically offers you the medal he was awarded for his heroism, and you reach out and... take it. he just kind of stares at you in shock, did you actually just take his loving medal (yes you did)

If only you hadn't been so shitfaced drunk maybe you'd have stories from your cop days.

I never did manage to get inventory editing to stick, but I did get Kuno to join the party from the very start. He goes away if you enter and leave the Whirling though.

I imagine it breaks a lot of the game proper, but I don't really have time to experiment, unfortunately.

Also I've been listening to a lot of British Sea Power thanks to this game, they're pretty good. I've noticed the obvious tracks in DE (Red Rock Riviera, Tiger King, Smallest Church in Sussex) but also a couple others that aren't so obvious. Like this is the basis for Joyce Messier's theme:

Measurehead's world is built around constructs and assumptions that Cuno would killdozer through without any effort. He wouldn't stand a chance, same as how all the lib reviewers initially gave DE a middling or bad score because they found Cuno so unpleasant and domineering and didn't have a Speech check to "fix" him instantly

I just noticed, apart from Saint Saens instead of Sussex, the only difference in the lyrics is that DE has "pale cliffs" instead of "while cliffs". So instead of just being on the coast, his chuch is literally at the edge of the world.

“White Cliffs” refers to the white cliffs on England’s southern coastline in Sussex county, as does “Seven Sisters”.

It was after the update. My laptop is just old and I rarely use it for games anyway. I can actually get my model to show up so long as no clothing is equipped. The frog visor keeps the geometric storm from expanding too far, so I generally rush for it to keep the game running smoother. The cafeteria manager, hanged man and the woman in the wheelchair also tend to not show up, but once I found out where to click it wasn't a problem. Took me a while to realize there was supposed to be a body in the noose and assumed somebody stole it.

My character model was really perplexing for Measurehead.

I got about 12 minutes in before I realized this guy had no intentions of making a single interesting statement. I used to teach high school English and if a student turned in this opening to me there'd be about 20 giant red pen circles with notes like DELETE, CLICHE, GET TO THE POINT, RE-STRUCTURE. He even goes so far up his own rear end to say, "Ah you see I am elevating the video game critique to something you may have heard of if you have read a book, an "anal-ysis" and announces he'll be referencing Marx, Lacan, and Zizek as if the game wasn't wearing them on its sleeve to the point where it's practically text.

This is a feature length version of that "Rick and Morty is very high IQ" meme

It's not that bad, while it does lack brevity it has direction and though the philosophical references may be obvious he goes deep enough to show why specifically it is Zizek or Lacan that is relevant rather than just a general "the theme is marxism". Zizek is more know for his meandering pop culture analysis to most people rather than his critique on Marxism and the video provides a good introduction to it and how the game relates to it. It's pretty much what I want from a youtube critique.

Hey, I'm gonna replay this game for the first full time since it came out to play alongish with a friend. On my first playthrough I was a GIANT COMMUNIST. I've heard that the game (maybe just the endgame sequence?) can acknowledge if you have multiple, even conflicting ideologies. Anyone done this? I'm curious what kind of thing the game says and what might be a fun playthough.

On a different note - anyone know any good cheat tables or trainers or the like that can help me edit specific skills? I want to play a clueless idiot who has like a nine or something in conceptualization, basically an idiot-savant ART COP

I got Communist/Moralist and Communist/Ultraliberal and basically Kim at some point says that Harry is a Communist who wants to liquidate the ruling class, but also a "True-Blue Moralist who believes in sustainable progress/an Ultraliberal Hustler who is always on the grind. I have no idea how he reconciles these beliefs."

I've definitely internalized multiple copotypes and ideological thoughts as well, and I think having a variety gives you more prompts for dialogue or inner-thoughts. Not sure though. Inexplicable Feminist Agenda definitely gets brought up a few times, and Kim will even comment "I don't know where he picked that up, but I think he's sincere."

Harry's political beliefs are so surface level that it's not hard for the game to reconcile the fact that your always looking to get paid while also threatening to kill anyone with more than 25 real in their pocket.

This was a bit tricky - I had to change the INT dice, add to the skill, then drop it back down - but I got it done. Idiot-savant art cop achieved, thanks!

Does anyone know offhand if the game tracks drinks and drugs separately? That is, if I get Wasteland of Reality and never touch a drink but smoke and/or do weird psychedelics will the narrative think I'm still a junkie or will people consider me someone trying to sober up?
