Control because they're well-written but not actual audio logs so I don't have to listen to some jackass for three minutes.

Is there a dedicated Control thread? I got a decent way through before a side quest boss made me quit in frustration.

The sidequest bosses in that game are way harder than anything in the critical path, I nearly quit in frustration at one of them (esseJ) too. Instead I just realized that I was never going to finish that sidequest and abandoned it and got on with the rest of the game, which I think was the right choice, because that game rules.

Regarding the question of audio logs, I liked Horizon Zero Dawn's a lot. The farewell tour was really something else, I usually skip collectibles in video games but I made that one my top priority.

I liked Prey's audio logs, they did a good job of world building and making it feel like a real community of people with their own stuff going on - all these little personal stories that gave it a lot of heart and made stuff a bit more poignant if you found out what happened to them

plus they did the ol' System Shock switcheroo - not as effectively but it's still cool to have that hol' up a minute realisation that someone sounds different...

speaking of audio logs and also assassin's creed origins the ancient devices that ramble on for loving 10 minutes at time in the slowest possible interpretation of human speech were only made even more infuriating upon the discovery that they dump a text file transcript to your laptop outside of the animus that can be read in like 30 seconds. just absolutely atrocious design.

It just isn’t all that silly in the end. You just do various kinds of races (and some stunt piloting) and slowly make your cars better in a scaled down USA. There’s no real plot beyond some background rivalries with background characters. If you don’t enjoy doing a lot of racing then there just isn’t much left over.

Also it has an version of the “gear score” system (in the form of car parts) that no one really liked in Breakpoint but it at least works better because upgrading cars makes more sense.

I personally don't like GOG Galaxy a lot. It seems to be very unreliable about when and how many of your games it actually decides to scrape when you have a lot of them and randomly forgets my accounts sometimes. I don't have so many off-Steam games that it has been worth the bother of dealing with that so far.

I wish there was a big picture type thing for it. I feel like the only time using different launchers has been that much of a pain in the rear end to deal with is when I'm on the couch and really really do not want to get up. Honestly I was surprised to see that it wasn't already a thing when I checked, that seems like such a slam dunk.

Is there a game similar to Dungeon of the Endless? For some reason that game is just really fun to me, with the mix of Roguelite + TD + RPG elements, and I want to know if something else exists that is comparable or if I should just wait until Dungeon 2 which may or may not ever come out.

Same here. The concept wasn't new to me when I played it, but I still found it to be an intensely depressing setting in a way that games with similar stories didn't even approach. Not entirely sure why.

It is a very depressing setting. One of impending doom and knowing the doom has happened but while they grapple with it (in their time) all the struggles that one would expect while one is trying to save what little droppings of humanity they can, perhaps futilely. that they're spending the last of their days under impending doom working away as everyone they know and work with around them dies and not spending a minute with love ones at all--all for trying to accomplish the goals not for themselves, not for anyone because no one will be alive, but just because of all the lives that contributed to history, arts, etc being something worth saving and worth spending the last end-times to do it, and stumbling along the way. an effort that came so close to failing, and almost did, except for...
