Fortunately, Buckethead has been doing well enough to tour. It wasn't until October 2017 that anyone even knew what happened because he's so reclusive that he doesn't give interviews ever. That was the first time most people had even heard his voice since the 90s.

I’m pretty old so Prince was getting big right when I started getting into music. I thought he was so loving gross, he just skeeved me right out and the idea of that dude being somehow sexy was completely unfathomable to my lil brain.

I’ve since come around on the music and I get psyched whenever someone posts a badass video that makes me realize how good he actually was.

There’s a video out there that can be a bitch to find of the first time he performed Purple Rain. I think they even used the board recording from that for the album version. But it’s an incredible performance and that’s not even one of my favorite songs of his.

Some stand-up comedian make a joke about seeing him for the first time and Prince came out on stage in high-heel boots, a raincoat, and panties. He said something like, "We weren't ready for that in Cleveland."

Not as elaborate as those amateur Rube Goldberg set-ups, but the difficulty came from only using parts of the car. One of my all-time favorite commercials, from Honda.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z57kGB-mI54

Well, dang. While it was all practical shots, it was not all a single shot. Due to space limitations, they edited two shots together, as indicated in this making-of.

It is stitched at the muffler shot.

Rube Goldberg devices were funny when they were drawn out in schematics. 5 seconds of looking over and you're done. "Haha, look how stupidly complex that is! Delightful!"

Now that cameras are widespread, it's 2 minute watch time to be completely underwhelmed. Its more fun watching falling domino tricks, honestly.

I get bored watching a ball roll for that long, but you still gotta appreciate the execution, someone actually doing it. It's always one thing knowing something can be done, and something completely else seeing it actually happen.

I think the issue with the videos is that they are a repetition of the same 2-3 simple machines over and over. Lever, inclined plane. Lever, inclined plane. Lever, inclined plane....

This goes beyond rube goldberg into messing with the viewer so hats off to them.

While I appreciate the planning and setup that goes into such machines I just can't shake the feeling that any of them with anything impressive is multiple takes stitched together.

I'm pretty sure each cut in that video is a separate take, and they're moving the whole setup from table to table in between them. I think it all could work in a single take though, so I don't feel like that really dampens the creativity that goes into it; it just means they didn't have 80 tables to set it all up at once in a quarter-mile-long dining room, and the patience to try it a thousand times until everything goes off perfectly in one run.
