Luneshot posted:big fan of our insistence on large-scale irrigation and animal agriculture in the southwest and california, places famous for having plentiful water supplies We do have lots of water in California! I mean, the true California, Northern California. And yes, it's seasonal and depends on the snowpack, but it's there. We divert it to fields to grow acres and acres of not-naturally-occuring-and-extremely-water-hungry rice and almonds. And we also destroy local habitats to make dams and construct artificial lakes and ship all this seasonal water down open-air canals to fake California, Southern California.

Trainee PornStar posted:So.... from reading the thread. How on fire is the US (& everywhere else) going to be this year? Pretty bad. It was an extremely dry year here in California, everything started blooming and dying early because of early sun and winter ending early. some major fires are def gunna happen in august. It also could be the start of a new drought cycle, we've been pretty lucky the last 2 or 3 years with atmospheric river events after a real bad 5-year drought preceeding that and our reservoirs are generally pretty full; but another couple of years like this and it'll get bad again. and although residential water isn't a problem this year, this is still bad from a wildfire point of view with lots of poo poo just dying quicker and becoming tinder PacNW is in a similar boat with pretty little amount of rain this year and lots of forests that could go up in flames. it used to be pretty notorious for lots of rainfall but it's been low
