i don't watch anime or really like anime much beyond like Studio Ghibli stuff or the old Ghost in the Shell movie, but this series get so much hype around here i've almost gone searching for a copy a few times; is it actually worthwhile or is it a case of mediocrity being stanned because of low expectations

I started watching it because of the same hype. I'm enjoying it, but I'm a sucker for older anime shows like Patlabor and Fist of the North Star.

Watch this first to see if you enjoy it. It's the first movie that leads into the show and establishes the characters and setting, but doesn't go into a ton of depth. The meat of the story is in the series. Start with the 4th video in the playlist if it grabs you.

It's good to like things. It's not good to mould your entire identity around things. I enjoy anime, books, video games, board games, etc. I am not a gamer or otaku or whatever. Because it's not me, it's something I enjoy.

This applies to SO MANY THINGS. Making a hobby your entire identity is really unhealthy.

That goes without saying but it's not we're talking about, we're talking about the posters who can't let a mention of it reference to any Asian animation go by in any context without letting everyone know that they think animation from Asian countries is bad. It's dumb and prejudiced. It reminds me of bringing Korean food for lunch at school and the braying jackasses who liked to hold their nose and make a big deal about how bad it smelled, even when it was something as innocuous as bulgogi which is just fried beef.

It's just an excuse to dance close to acting racist against an "acceptable" target, however your want to justify it to yourself.

This is a forum where someone posted that the entire output of SE Asia is pedophilia and no one even flinched so racism probably plays at least a small part in this. Also most people on here both are desperate to not be viewed as nerds while accusing the entire community of being nerds so it's also a knee-jerk "Not I."
