I mean peafowl are pretty good, but the sheer quality of rainbow lorikeets, flame wrens, king parrots, kookaburras, cockatoos, etc. I think gives us the edge.

I did the national bird count and apparently I counted more birds than 99% of people that did it. Presumably some of those people entered spotted dicks but I'm sure I still counted more birds than a lot of people. I didn't wind up with a very impressive diversity of birds though I just counted the magpies and lorikeets over and over each day

magpies have the best birdsong. Also yeah I specifically avoided saying emus, since they're more like dinosaurs than birds. full disclosure I have been playing an aarakokra rogue named Cyrano de Budgerigar for the last year and a bit so I'm probably biased.

i've been whistling "twisted nerve" from the kill bill vol 1 st at the magpies lately and they seem to like it. most birds seem to be put off by a human whistling but magpies seem to appreciate the effort at least i can't sleep so I'm smoking bongs and listening to an audiobook of "the second sex" Jezza of OZPOS fucked around with this message at 18:31 on Jun 7, 2020 |

What the birds don't eat the possums finish off. After 10 years there's a predictable procession of critters, everyone gets a treat. My mum hand fed this enormous grey currawong for years . He'd sit there on the windowsill and watch her cook.

There are literally 1000's of the noisy fuckers around here. My friend was gunna buy a $10 rat for her kid and asked me to come along to translate. To the western loving suburbs of Sydney (the Forbidden Zone). I was like gently caress that noise, get a parrot. So we went to the bird shop http://livingjunglepetshop.com.au and got a hand-reared Rainbow Lorikeet instead. $280. Anyways. The bird is loving trouble, yet awesome. Destroys cables. Bites strangers. Good bird. Charlie (the bird) was starting to fly around in the house. I'm like be careful dudes. He flew out the window yesterday. Up into a tree. Maybe 50 metres (164 ft.) high. Spent the night out in the cold, fending off possums, butcherbirds, cats, etc. Then we could hear him calling out, way, way ,way up in the tree. I called him down. Making clicking/chirping sounds. Charlie is back home.

rats are a great starter pet too bc when you're comfortable moving up to better pets you can simply feed them the rats

Someone wanted 350 for an undesexed Kelpie that isn't good enough to be a working dog and I refuse to pay it but I really want to see if they'll haggle down bc he looks like a good young fella and it's not like I'm great at work either. Ultimately I think 12 months is a bit advanced level dog owner ship for me anyway I reckon I hit my stride around the 5 year mark when they just want belly rubs and regular short walks

10 years ago my mum bought 2 expensive purebred cats, so my dad said "gently caress it i wanna take home this feral kitten i found at work", and they still have all of them and the feral cat is by far the best of the lot

My australian mist is an awesome huge friendly monster cat but my ragdoll is a neurotic little annoying monster, Purebred cats are less likely to hunt and kill random wildlife in my experience, but that might just be my experience.
