I have yet to see a single Labour MP actually give unequivocal support of the protestors actions in toppling the statue,w hich is incredibly disappointing.

The closest I've seen is David Lammy saying it should have been removed by democratic means years ago which is true but.

Irrelevant to the question of whether it was right to pull it down now.

And makes me deeply concerned about the long-term impacts of this kind of action. Even if the bristol council is fully on board, and even if the public gets behind it, if the best our most leftist politicians can do is mealy-mouthed ~electability~ poo poo, I feel pretty justified in not using the H word.

I went down a rabbit hole of racist Twitter and Facebook last night. The main thing I learnt was that the 75 year old guy pushed over in Buffalo was faking it. You can tell this because you can clearly see that he has a fake blood pack hooked up between his mask and his ear.

I guess the cops were also in on the act, because they knew to keep walking by (it was fake blood after all!), then get a 'pretend' suspension. The rest of them must have handed in pretend 'letters of resignation' to keep the gag going.

Quite a prank!

Are you talking about Qualified Immunity or Qualified Privilege?

Because it's really important that I can say in court that a crime never happened and that the guard made up details so he could prosecute my client and be protected by Qualified Privilege so I can't be sued for defamation by said Guard.

Similar to Absolute Privilege as occasionally a TD will exposed a powerful businessman like Denis O Brien in a way that he can't sue them*.

This is one of the things that annoys me about the whole 'modern day slavery' thing. The literal point and definition of slavery is that it is the legal ownership of human beings. If your slave escapes, goes to a copper, and you get banged up because of it, that is not slavery, it is false imprisonment. When it is slavery then the copper arrests the slave and returns him to you for a whipping. That's how you tell the difference.

I'm comfortable calling it slavery because slavery can also be forced labour or labour without proper remuneration. Prison labour for example.

It's amazing how the cycle of rioting always turns out to have happened. People try democratic means, then peaceful protests, then democratic means some more, then peaceful protest some more, then eventually take direct action and :decorum: shitstains cry about why they didn't try peaceful protest or democratic means without even comprehending how much they did and were ignored.

Modern slavery is very much a thing, and quibbling over terminology is exactly what modern slavers want, and what historical slavers DID.

Modern slavery is prison labour.

Modern slavery is a trafficked construction worker or fruit picker whose passport has been taken away by his employer, who is forced into debt for uniform and PPE and accommodation and travel until the point where his wages are entirely consumed before he gets them.

Modern slavery is child sexual exploitation.

Modern slavery is adult trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Modern slavery is sweatshop labour.

I'd honestly go as far as to say it's Amazon warehouse workers in a lot of cases.

Also they had been for 30 years, and the council didn't listen, probably because they were pressured by decorum obsessed MPs.

That's why there was a critical mass of people willing to pull it down, and why the police made no attempt to stop it, and why there was mass cheering when it was chucked into the sea.

You don't get that without years of anger deferred.

LEGALLY enforced labour, yes, I agree with you, and there is a reason the 13th amendment has the bit in it saying 'except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted' in it. That's the thing, though, having the State officially back and enforce the ownership of human beings is a uniquely evil thing to my mind and it cheapens the term to extend it further. We already have perfectly good terms for the other cases.

I'm sure I read somewhere that among all the official UK parliament petitions, the ones that need 100k signatures for debate in parliament, not a single one has accomplished anything.

Do it through the proper channels, the ones where you feed your suggestion into the black box of centrism and it comes out the other end with a big REJECTED stamped on and we can plausibly deny that we're ignoring you.

Our war against free speech cannot end until we silence this bronze beast!

Reading back through kiers career as Chief Bootlicker/Bootstomper for the evil tory pedo government, he seems to not be a particularly good choice for Labour leader

Like every big government gently caress up of the past X years Kier is there and he fucks things up every time too and has to apologise.

I read a funny blogspot article that's called "kier didn't let Saville off" and in classic lib fashion it can't just lie so it basically admits that, yes, keir was in charge of not investigating Saville, then held a minor internal inquiry into the failure which blamed Kiers decision not to proceed!

Any police brutality case he's there too lying alongside the IPCC and cops until the last moment.

He's a professional bootlicker and he wasn't even very good at it.
But he will NEVER attack the government itself, he's spent his entire life lying and defending its most heinous crimes.

I'm beginning to wonder if he's not just a spook and mi5 used him and probably others as patsys to gently caress Corbyn then figured hey why not try for leader of the party while were at it.
If not they missed a trick cause you couldn't hope for a better leader to sabotage Labour as a vehicle for the proles
