Western PA here. Kennywood Park just announced they're opening in mid-July. 50% capacity, temperature screening, 6 foot spacing for lines, disinfecting the rides between each trip, and you must wear a mask. I sure as hell won't be going, but it seems like they at least put the bare minimum amount of effort into this. So, of course, every single comment on facebook is some variant of "WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM?" or "I WON'T WEAR A MASK THIS IS AMERICA!" One woman was concerned she'd "drown" if it rained and her mask got wet. USA, everybody!

shame on an IGA posted:No that's the 95% confidence interval assuming those states maintain whatever restrictions they currently have in place indefinitely Also note that these guys have been posting INCREDIBLY optimistic models that kept predicting that the worst was definitely over and the deaths would immediately start dropping off and they'd be down to zero in a month, all with extremely high "certainty": ...... and then a week or two later when it became way too obvious that their model was just plain wrong they'd just shift it all across a bit and go "Well okay NOW the worst is definitely over and the deaths will immediately start dropping off and we'll be down to zero in a month, we're really sure of it!!" .... and so on and so on for several months. The fact that they've now changed their tune to "Okay things will probably keep gradually dropping down for a few months but we're very very certain that they'll then get worse and by October the rate of deaths per day will be somewhere between 100 and 4000 and we have no idea what happens next" is pretty because if there's one thing you can be sure of with a IHME graph it's that reality will turn out to be much worse

My favorite coworker might have COVID-19. Apparently her whole immediate family has it, and she has had to take care of her grandmother since she had a stroke. She told me that her legs hurt, which is apparently a sign that her antibodies are being used or something, and now she's officially out sick. I hope she's okay.

A White Guy posted:I'm glad that we as nation have collectively decided "ya know what? Public safety is haaaard", threw up our hands, and have let this thing totally off the leash. See that's the thing, we haven't, which is why reopening won't work (economically). The Trump administration has decided it's too hard. Business folk have decided it's too hard. A fraction of the general population mostly consisting of red hats has decided it's too hard (or a hoax). But a majority of the population is still very concerned and will not go back to pre-covid behavior even if "allowed" to.

Yeah I'd say a majority of the population still don't want to risk catching the roni but the government is saying Get Back To Work.

Chomp8645 posted:See that's the thing, we haven't, which is why reopening won't work (economically). I work in IT for a real estate firm and I'm being forced to go back to the office here in Ohio on Monday after working from home since early April. It sucks hard and I'm very unhappy and worried about it because I feel very safe in my controlled environment where I venture outside my apartment only to visit my girlfriend, hit up a grocery store once a week, and take regular walks. I really, really don't want to compromise that solely because some idiot Boomer executives want to project that we're WORKING HARD, THANK YOU to their rich friends and corporate buddies... but I'm paid very nicely for my services and I'd like to stay employed to pay for my rent and lifestyle. At least it's going to be only 2-3 days per week alternating between the office and at home, but there's absolutely nothing my company's work entails that requires an office for 98% of its workers besides keeping up business culture working so hard guys appearances.
