nikosoft posted:Are you serious? I mean, I don't have kids, so I don't really know. We did daycare until I was maybe eight or so, and then I was old enough to 'babysit' my brother after school. If I was a parent I'd rather be available, but I also think we were old enough to be fine, and people gotta work. This is from a rich town by me quote:While police never pursued charges, DCFS launched an investigation after someone saw Widen’s daughter, Wendy, on her solo walk.

Ursine Catastrophe posted:I mean the second aspect of that is there's a huge difference between "capital has said open it up" and "people are marching out to applebees en masse". Even during the largest open-er-up protests, something like 80% of people were being polled as "yo this poo poo is nuts"; and even of that other 20% there's a difference between "I want the country opened up in a theoretical sense" and "I am actually willing to back that up with actions and go eat at a resturaunt". whats gonna happen is that various parts of the us go thru the nyc curve until the kindling is burnt out then it'll slow down after it's killed all the vulnerable ppl so you'll see local waves that might synchronize up to a big overall wave but individual areas will be in different states

A 50% economy for 12+ months as people watch tens of thousands of people get sick daily will surely be better than a 25% economy for 3 months that would have stopped the virus completely, it's just math.

Yeah, just like the whole 'masks encouraged but optional' thing a bunch of places have settled on. It's lovely and misses the point. If I go to a place that says 'masks required' and see a bunch of people not wearing masks im just gonna leave.

Solarin posted:'shutting down the economy' is the dumbest loving phrase The news likes to simplify things because people who watch the news are morons so it is easier to refer to complex systems as if they were a toaster. "We are slowly re-opening the economy" is such a nonsensical thing to say and yet it has been written into tens of thousands of articles by now. As a scientist I see this constantly in science journalism, but it also extends to everything covered by journalists.

Kids being on their own seems to vary by neighborhood and how pearl clutchy your neighbors are. I see kids walking to school and to the store together all the time.
