CoD actually ended up ditching that entirely, the CoD game that came out a year after spec ops is one of the more disgusting storylines ive ever seen in a game with how straight faced nationalist and violent it is. i think theres still room to bang the drum but im coming from a point where i rarely if ever play AAAs anymore, because i legitimately got tired of singleplayer games where it was just pretty realisticly rendered violence with nothing to say at all, so im happy for people to make an attempt at this point. i think big budget games need to come to terms with it more, i dont think its particularly good to keep on the line of lots of violence and no message. at least in cinema it feels like there is a much better balance to me.

You give the player something that still aids passive play even in sticky situations, and then you can make valid commentary on violence and those who use it. Tlou forcing you not only to brutalize, but minimizing the tools needed to do so just ensures that player kills. Tlou2 sounds super manipulative, especially when druckman admits they tuned the game based on watching players.

The owner of that company was a POS too, ripping off employees as much as the models at times. Anyway, they were indiscriminate in who they'd scam, parents paying almost a thousand bucks for their little kid to get "professional" modeling comp cards, ugh. The notion of child models grosses me out, I think advertising targeting children should still be illegal, fuckin, period. Some parents were extra loving creepy and I'd report em to FBI since they provided their names and addresses and contact info and all that. I used to use my ex-boss's name to harass the owner of that company while working there on company time but it lost it's fun when I quit

I really wouldn't be surprised if this was fairly common practice in AAA, to watch playtesters/focus testers closely while they play and tune the game based on their reactions.
