I was thinking about clean code cultists today after listening to someone talk about a trend among “aspiring writers” to spend all their time reading and collecting books and aphorisms about how to write and never really writing just like clean code nerds spend all their time reformatting and refactoring according to a trend and it’s all probably for the same reason: it’s comfortable to bikeshed, and often the code devotees work some tedious job writing business software for a widget maker or something and it’s their only way to find value in their bullshit job
