The sad thing about Taibbi is that his general analysis of certain trends in the media is correct, but he seems to fail to realize that he's followed the exact same trends, just in the opposite direction for the purpose of contrarianism.

Taibbi's had some conservative twitter assholes whip up a bunch of rear end in a top hat liberals into trying to #MeToo him over a fictional book he co-wrote now 20 years ago and clearly that stuck with him to the point that he's going wild now that he isn't under any kind of editorial supervision. Good journalist, but even in terms of following that article it needs some serious editing. What happens at the bon apettit test kitchen is loving meaningless compared to a guy using the paper of record to call for the military to put down protesters.

You really need to work on your reading comprehension MP. I don't see how it's possible to read this:

quote:

It’s been learned in these episodes we may freely misreport reality, so long as the political goal is righteous. It was okay to publish the now-discredited Steele dossier, because Trump is scum. MSNBC could put Michael Avenatti on live TV to air a gang rape allegation without vetting, because who cared about Brett Kavanaugh – except press airing of that wild story ended up being a crucial factor in convincing key swing voter Maine Senator Susan Collins the anti-Kavanaugh campaign was a political hit job (the allegation illustrated, “why the presumption of innocence is so important,” she said). Reporters who were anxious to prevent Kavanaugh’s appointment, in other words, ended up helping it happen through overzealousness.

and come away thinking this:

An interesting thread on a "Forward" editor marginalizing black Jewish writers.

https://twitter.com/PopChassid/status/1272196646869352449

It seems at first like you could chalk it up to misunderstanding and just personal problems between former friends, but then you find out she's done exactly the same thing to several other black Jewish writers.

it becomes increasingly hard to care about some of this poo poo when it just seems like it's high school drama replicated across a couple of media centre cities where everyone's dad makes minimum $250k a year. All over the right to be the one who gets to run the school newspaper.

Mixing in stories where people are actually getting poo poo on is a great way to launder your own backbiting as some kind of just cause.

tbqh iv been disappointed by how many otherwise smart people have leapt to Taibbis defense over his dumb article because one of the ways you become a dipshit is you have everyone around you kissing your rear end telling you that you can do no wrong. it's something both #woke libs who went to ivys and nominal socialists do. you are living in a bubble if you think "angry twitter mobs" are a problem even if you are approaching from a socialist perspective

But Taibbi's pretty obviously wrong here. All you need to do to disprove him is compare the Kavanaugh vote (50-48) to the Gorsuch vote (54-45). The Kavanaugh hearings moved votes, just not enough. The real argument you could make there is that it cost Dems Senate seats, but to take Collins at her word is lame.

The article is mostly trash but I think his point is running with the Avenatti stuff (as opposed to dr Ford) gave Collins some political cover to hide behind and justify her vote which she wouldn’t have had otherwise and would have needed to grasp for an even flimsier justification

This is true like 50% of the time someone posts that account. "Oh wow look at how much they're reframing this story!!!!!"

Most stories get updated throughout the day to maximize the social media sharing impact rather than writing a whole new story when new info comes up.

I don't think organizational racism is not always as clear cut as "Only white people have titles that alow them to get paid fairly" or "the department head said they weren't asking the black anchor to 'pick cotton' during contract disputes."

This lady's pissed because she wants her "black friends" to shield her from criticism, but she knows she can't say "I have black friends" or she'll get laughed at. They have to do it actively, and when they don't, she gets pissed off. She's a gatekeeper in Jewish media and is hoping to use that to get a free pass. If you put one of these under a microscope, sure it looks like just some drama, but the fact she's done it to multiple black writers means something.

I've worked with several men who run their own companies and have had "personality conflicts" with every woman they've ever worked with. Any single case you couldn't pin on sexism, but there's a common denominator.
