Wait, did they officially announce VR? Over on Youtube, they only showed some pre-rendered trailer, no gameplay.

One thing I’m particularly disappointed in is the terrible selection of 4K monitors right now. Almost all of them are overpriced while missing major features that are ubiquitous in TVs like HDR, full array backlighting and HDCP 2.2 support. Unless I was willing to drop $3000 on this monstrosity...

4k dot pitches are difficult to get right at the density required for a 2' viewing distance vs 10' on IPS, let alone OLED, and the displays are following the cards somewhat. That 2000 'half-step' was about getting thrutch on the card to drive the resolutions.

I just bought a LG 27GL83A-B (27" Ultragear QHD IPS 1ms NVIDIA G-SYNC Compat) for $374 for the 1080 machine, and it's extremely nice. The stand is actually useful, which is a bigger deal than I thought possible and I've not spotted any tearing worth a drat during normal play. Colors are solid. Getting a comparable 4k would have been around a grand, and I'd probably need a bigger memory card.

Just before the pandemic hit I did some research and picked up an LG 4k (75SM8670PUA) from the local Best Buy for around $1200. Funny story, I thought I was replacing a 65", but it was a 55".

So, I've got the desktop and a couple of games that scale really well running in 4k, but the majority of stuff just doesn't have the UI scaling for 4k. Children of a Dead Earth handles it well, but more 'indie' games tend to present you with text scaled for the 2' viewing distance rather than the 10'. I think we've got a comfortable generation until 4k is mainstream; although I acknowledge that I'm a good year behind the cutting edge.

+1. The couch machine got an SSD because they're a lot less noisey, and I shifted to NVME M.2 + SSDs on my gaming machine last year. No regrets.

There are M.2 PCIe adaptors out there that can help with the single drive issue, as well.

Nothing can pull the rug from under SC. Even if a game has better dogfighting the cultists can just say "Well, SC is more than just a dogfighting game, it is basically a full virtual life!" because sexy bear has promised them everything that has been asked.

It's probably gonna suck but exactly this, we've all wanted to pilot a xwing in first person VR since the original Tie Fighter was released.

I'd really like to see a remake of Xwing:Alliance, it had everything a good space pilot game needs.

It's game engine footage, which puts it on a par with anything that SC have produced, but I got into Battlefront II once the bruhaha settled down and found the graphics were easily on a part with the upfront marketing.

However, it's an EA game, so *don't pre-order it*. EA will launch some bullshit engagement stickiness at the same time and PR their way out of it.

BTW, I recommend BF II for some uncomplicated shootmans; 32 a side in galactic assualt.

Yeah I'm really giving 5v5 the side eye and I know it somehow will be frustratingly bad but my first PC was bought with just enough power to play X wing and I did every one ever since. Alliance was super fine.

Battlefront was great and terrible. It may be the prettiest game I've ever played. The environments were breathtaking. The biggest problem was it was just a bit too realistic. Sure, in a real trench fight with both sides featuring heavy artillery and snipers, if you poke your head out, you gonna die. But this is a video game so chill the gently caress out captain realism

It's from EA and it's multiplayer and it has to work with console controllers. I'm going to bet it's an expansion/re-appropriation of the dogfighting from Battlefront, which was fine and cinematic but extremely shallow and not really worth writing home about. I don't know how you'd make it work in VR without being extremely nauseating though.

The map you're talking about actually spawns the Empire before the trenchline, so you have to use the walker's feet for cover before hitting the trenches.

Then you have to push the tunnels between that and the second set of trenches before breaching the arty line and then running into the hanger; which due to HDR is a black hole filled with laser death.

It's one of those that rewards a coherent approach to assualts, but it takes a while for everyone to get on the same page organically.

Chances are they've taken the assets and expanded it into a wider game. From the beats in the bullshot, it looks like power management makes a comeback. Make it Ace Combat alike and I think they've got a win.
