When I first googled "why is it snowing HotS 2020" I was 100% sure the character was going to be Mei

then they tweeted the Alterac(?) pic of an orc/troll building ans some barrels with arrows shot into them, and I was confused because that has nothing to do with Mei other than snow

then they tweeted Mei's lil robot eyes and I still have no idea why they posted the AV orc building.

Everyone already knows it was gonna be Mei. I am curious how her skills will differ from "Jaina, but with a Tassadar force wall"

Jaina has Mei's autoattack, her ice block, and blizzard / ring of frost are basically Mei's ult as well. Tassadar has an impassible wall.

What will Mei do that is new and different? And how terrible will it be??

Jaina has a stream of ice that slows you more the longer it hits you, culminating in a stun?

Blizzard/RIng of Frost also have that effect in a large area?

There's more difference than you think there is.

Thanks, I'm flattered.
I see Mei as combination of old Tassadar, Jania, and Arthas. I think she will be able to talent her auto attack likes Arthas Ice aura thing where it will freeze people in place, I also think she will have an icewall but unlike Tassadars it will be able to be broken like it is in Overwatch. Then, I think she will have an ice skill shot that is pretty much like Janias. I think her Ult will be like Chromies slow sand one but will also do a bit of DOT. For her second ult I am not for sure. Then for her final skill she will have ice block as a regular skill but then with talents she can make it so it heals her and does other stuff.

So their solution was to give her an entirely new toolkit that has basically nothing to do with her OW kit.

She seems to do everything but raw damage. Slow, stuns, blinds and a good engage.

Looks busted lol with that area stun. More tanks is good though since I don’t really like playing any of them. Maybe she’ll be fun enough.

It's Johanna level CC, her damage is going to be garbage and she'll be entirely dependent on allies to capitalize on the killzones she'll set up

Apparently her full rotation doesn’t clear waves until like level 4, her AA’s tickle and she has long CDs as well so yeah she does nothing for damage can’t solo lane at all.

Still don’t really like the idea of basic skills with 80% slows right off the gate. And why the gently caress does EVERYTHING need a blind, hasn’t Illidan suffered enough?!

Looks like everything is there but her OW primary attack, which is almost certainly best kept out of this game. Wasn't expecting her OW ult to become a basic ability but it looks like it has a relatively small radius and you won't get frozen unless you start at one side of it and have to walk through the whole thing. Hoping her damage is low enough that she's not completely infuriating to fight against but with slows on everything in addition to the other forms of CC she's going to be a massive pain in team fights at least.

its way more than johanna level cc.

she has a knockback on her E-dash thing.
she has an AOE slow on her W, that turns into an AOE stun at the end.
her Q is a ranged targed AOE slow and blind.
both her ults are a ridiculous amount of CC, one is an AOE stasis / knock back, the other is an enormous AOE stasis AND gigantic physical terrain blocker.

she better be artanis levels of fragile to make up for this kit but the fact that they classify her as a tank makes me think she won't be

One of her listed weaknesses is burst damage so yeah I'd say she's probably on the fragile side.

I entirely agree with the gist of your post here, but it's always strange to me when people cite "Release Hanzo." On his release Hanzo was severely undertuned and had around a 42% win rate even in the high-end leagues. It took two months of buffs and bug fixes before he became good-to-great depending on who was playing him.

Hanzo absolutely languished in Mediocre Assassin Hell on release but he still managed to outperform Raynor just because his kit was so overloaded (especially the 7.5 range). Release Hanzo himself wasn't overpowering but he was still a problem because the dev team was so obviously focused on adding New And Shiny poo poo instead of fixing old and clunky characters. Considering that we already have several very CC-oriented tanks, concerns about her being able to smoothly outperform them are worth considering.

It also comes at a time where if you look at the tanks that are actually getting played/winning games, your options are basically ETC, Diablo and sometimes Johanna if they have a lot of AA damage. Most of the other tanks are in a bad to terrible spot, and there's others like Arthas, Muradin and Blaze that are basically only ever picked as niche offlane bruisers and that's it. Which doesn't really work anymore because Tracer and Cassia are everywhere and they can't do poo poo to them.

A lot of older tanks need to be looked at, but now we have this new one that has 8 different CC's built into her base kit with some staggering numbers behind it. I feel like Blizzard is just gonna plop down Mei and say "there, tank meta problem fixed pay up bitches"

edit: the stuff about her being weak to burst damage seems wrong, she has more HP then half the tanks in this game and a built in Ice Block

...how many loving tanks have any kind of burst damage?! That's an insane thing to call a weakness for a tank in this game, most of them literally tickle people unless you go pure damage builds, like what Muradin does.

Just like with when they tried removing walls or whatever, I hope they reconsider this change.

Not bad, gonna have to get that one. A friend of mine likes HotS but has no real game sense, so he usually only plays if he can be Gall and act as the turret. Anything else and he ends up being in the wrong place constantly and either feeding or losing us objectives. It's still fun but having played Cho a lot it's hard to overlook the inherent weakness of having two players in one body with a game that's as CC heavy as this. I'm hardly a grandmaster and can't really judge power levels at the higher ranks but it seems like a bad idea to use him outside of quickplay.

It was kind of silly how someone could just stand within range of a tower and stop Xul from ever using his W.
