Trump sundowning is funny but I don't think it's effective politics. Especially when the alternative is Joe Biden.

As I understand it, this ad only appears on the internet and in DC, on Trump’s cable provider. They’re trolling him.

I disagree re: Junior coasting to anything in 2024. For as greasy and oily as Junior is, he doesn't quite have that Fox News Grandpa Energy that Trump uses to keep an iron grip on his chuds.

Regarding Jr's future prospects; was Saint Reagan , the Eternal President, (PBUH) a deific figure in life, or did he only become one after his term, and then life, ended? Like, yeah, I know Reagan was wildly popular with conservatives throughout but I seem to recall the deification really only kicking in after he died. Trump, in contrast, is already the literal messianic figure in a cult that is growing in size and influence.

When we're talking about the future of the Trump clan in the Right Wing I think looking at the children of political leaders is less apt because the modern GOP, especially the part that is enamored with Trump, is a religious organization, not a political organization.

One of the things that will reverberate for a long time will be Trump folding the conspiracy nuts into the republican coalition. Infowarriors have a political home now, and just like the evangelicals before them they will pull the party in their direction.

It's a really dangerous group to engage, because they're insane, but they're here now. Hopefully they prove an electoral liability, because a party that thinks Bill Gates is planning on injecting people with infertility drugs and tracking chips through vaccination is just an easy way to kill a nation.

I mean, they can also just as easily turn away from the coalition - all it takes is one tweet - particularly if Trump loses in November

That doesn't seem to make sense. And also, again, it was the same kids!

Honestly, I'd say on paper it's pretty stupid, but humans are pretty stupid, bigoted and awful. The point is to drop white kids into the underfunded schools, because as soon as white kids are in them they suddenly get a lot of money to fix stuff up (from new taxes and local politicians taking an interest in the school). The theoretical end goal would be to perfectly rebalance the schools to cancel out the damage that white flight did.

The Dollop podcast covered the strife around busing in Boston, and one thing that stood out was that even after all the violence, racist blowback and general chaos, administrators and teachers at black schools still said it was worth it because they were able to fix roofs that had been damaged for years, stop sharing textbooks and have more than one microscope for a science class. As soon as even poorer white children went to the schools they suddenly had enough money to actually be a school.

InsertPotPun posted:

This was probably one of the few little masterstrokes that Trump's team managed. They engaged the Infowars crowd and convinced them that Trump was their guy to take on the swamp or Illuminati. Normally the conspiracy crowd isn't exactly amped about electoral politics since they figure it's all rigged anyway, but they've really been able to rally around Trump in a way that they haven't before. The current trend has been Alex Jones trying to find ways to get secret messages to Trump now that the (((Globalists))) are surrounding him and trying to misled him.

It's actually very strange. Usually you see conspiracy crowds and general thought switch back and forth with the president or political power. You had 9/11 Truthers and a more general nature and alt-healthcare trend under Bush that was reshaped to all the Obama-era conspiracies. But under Trump all the right-wing conspiracies grouped together and seem to be staying together more or less.

Reagan had some real popularity and appeal and won over a generation of young conservatives, even if he was pretty tarnished by the end.. He was influential enough that even his ideological enemies imitated him and tried to recreated his success.. It's not an accident that GHWB won as basically a four more years candidate.

That said, in office he was still treated mostly as a man. The deification by the right came after they lost the White House again and could polish his legacy as a pleasant contrast to that pot-smoking womanizer and his ball-breaking communist wife. More importantly, even people who say "party of Lincoln" all the time still knew that if Reagan wasn't great, then there has never been a great conservative president.

The way I look at it the right wing is for both the death penalty and for the idea that corporations are people, so I vote we start applying capital punishment to corporations that do things that deserve capital punishment.

Imagine what a better world this would be if (for example) the high-functioning psychopaths who control Goldman Sachs had a genuine justified fear that they could face the death penalty if they destabilized the economy through their shenanigans.

You have to understand the gullible right wing mind. You have to give them a piece of what they want and then you add whatever wacky thing you want to it. You also have to make sure it leads to a conclusion they are already agreeable to.

Mike Pence loving a horse doesn’t match up with their worldview. But Obama running a secret underage beastiality porn studio somewhere does.

So the way you can get them to start believing that they shouldn’t vote is create some insane narrative that some liberal or Democrat want you to vote in person to do some wacky thing to you.

You push that narrative in Facebook groups and 4chan as well as conservative Twitter and in a week you will have these idiots refusing to vote.
