We were closed Sundays when we went to takeout only, and now that we've opened up Sundays again, the difference in the state of the kitchen/prep list on Monday morning is... quite stark. The walk-ins look like a bank vault at the end of a heist movie, empty boxes all over the place, various loose food items strewn about the ground, lids resting next to the cambros they're supposed to be covering. I try to have some sympathy because nobody likes working on a Sunday, but sheesh. Is Sunday just the universal scrub shift?

We're doing all these social distancing drills in preparation for serving students in the fall. No way that happens. An outbreak is inevitable. And I think somebody in management has to know that but doesn't want to tell us.

Culinary has been prepping for the 100 covers they told that we would be doing each night. Thurs: 150 Fri: 180 Sat: 200 Ran out of like half of our entrees and sides each night. At least customers haven't been assholes about it. Only had one old couple say "oh were the last ones in the restaurant, we don't care if you wear a mask for us." Ignoring that at least 2 local places have had to re shut down due to covid positive employees. e: I forgot the "no overtime" rule. One of our cold line cooks came in to help the banquet kitchen 2 hrs early, which resulted in sending them home 2 hrs early... in the middle of our second peak. going back to work tomorrow, being pushed to hit the ground running into a 40 hour week, the entire set up feels loving skeevy and confused with all the clear hallmarks of "we have no goddamn idea how to handle this" the one good manager already resigned a month ago, we're losing a good bartender, and one of the kitchen guys who worked real hard quit as well, wouldn't be surprised if this place falls to pieces by the end of the year

My casino's business never recovered after we had to announce two people with covid 19 visited us, followed all safety procedures, and nobody else was infected (because nobody reads the announcement, they read covid 19 and go "oh poo poo people got sick there"). As a result, the directors have decided to transition to the state's phase 2. The state isn't transitioning, mind. We are just going to pretend they are and reopen all our poo poo, because casino. They are trying to string me along with a promotion, but I already know they posted the position publicly and are just hoping enough other restaurants go down to hire someone better and cheaper. I'm just studying my computer touching in my free minutes, because it's been so slow I have actually run out of cleaning.

Join me in the land of bootcamp, my last day is this coming Saturday. Gonna be awesome. Less awesome was my husband losing his job and kind of screwing up the planned budget for me being out of work for 3+ months, but I figure if neither of us gets a job in 4-5 months we'd have to declare bankruptcy and move in with someone's parents anyway so its not that much of a hitch in the system. They are trying to deny his 600/mo from unemployment for some reason we can't figure out though, which is going to require 5 hours of being on hold sometime tomorrow to figure out. Does that only apply to people who were let go specifically because of COVID?

It is very Cool that I have been turned down by three jobs now due to being overqualified. I can't even get a job managing a loving fast food chicken joint because they think I'm going to *checks notes* leave for something better. You know, because all these restaurants are hiring chefs. I have no idea wtf I'm going to do.

My casino is currently holding a promotion over me they're never actually going to give me because they're waiting for you exactly, someone overqualified and getting a little desperate.

And Orlando looks to only be getting more hosed as time goes on now that local cases are spiking! Hospitals are at near capacity now. Disney is supposed to reopen in a few weeks as we are posting daily record numbers. My part time restaurant gig reopened but didn't call me back, and my hospital gig furloughed tons of employees because it turns out pandemics are not profitable, but hey I got a call from NASA for an interview so fingers crossed. I've been having dreams with the robot phone voice that has the same script that repeats over and over and then hangs up on you- that's not made up in the dream, that's what happened. I had still been filing every Sunday as required, so I am hopeful that in the next year I'll at least be able to finish the appeal to not owe back the money.

Most states you can still apply for unemployment if your hours are cut, like if you're cut from 40 to 20 hours and especially if you're cut from 40 to 0

I applied when I first got furloughed, and got labeled ineligible after waiting a month. 40% of the people in the state did too, so that ship has sailed.

Have you contacted your state representative and state senator? Write them, call them, etc. until someone pays attention. They should have a constituent services department who can make things happen, even if just to get you off their backs.

yeah, every aspect of the florida unemployment process has been hosed since the word go. and it came out pretty quickly that former governor and human/reptilian hybrid rick scott paid tens of millions of dollars to create a website that was purposely designed to fail you see, if you make it impossible for people to get unemployment you save money and you get to fudge the employment numbers to look better. and it'll most likely be poor minorities who get hosed over, so who cares? it's not like some kind of once in a century crisis will make this a critical lifeline to millions of people who are then completely hosed over poo poo really needs to change
