I think a bigger issue here is how this important test can be totally defrauded by a single person for 30 years without anyone else noticing.

From a life safety perspective, that seems like an excellent way for people to become trapped if the entrance to that poo poo wall becomes blocked. If there was a fire, a lot of people could die.

Kazy posted:I think a bigger issue here is how this important test can be totally defrauded by a single person for 30 years without anyone else noticing. It's not a pivotal test, it's a singular test that goes along with an entire testing report. The only 'check' the gov has for knowing it was done is a number provided in a document for "Fracture Toughness Test (-100F)", and in-person visits to the facility maybe once per contract period where they'll get shown 'hi yes this is the equipment we have laid out in our procedure document that we said we'd do the test with. see? it exists!'. And yeah, as people were saying earlier it's not a test done to prove the sub will survive at -100F, it's a data point used to better characterize cold weather behavior for that specific lot of steel so if something breaks you have more information you can go back and reference in trying to figure out what went wrong. ishikabibble fucked around with this message at 21:25 on Jun 17, 2020 |

The simple explanation for the temperature requirement is that they were worried about the commies developing freeze rays.

I figured most people would find it easier to start a fire there than make a bomb. And starting a fire there opens up all kinds of potential pig roasting jokes.

Grover hasn’t posted in six years. IIRC from Donoteat’s research, the house is still standing and Grover is still its registered owner. No word on if it’s complete.
