Is that basically the pitch for this? There's less unit variants and you have less units on the field so I guess. Also in general the objectives are clustered so you don't have to split your attention all over the place.

On top of which every squad has a big NATO symbol and clearly lists how many units are left in the squad. Edit: to be fully clear, I can know the type, supply situation, general health, and units left in the squad just by glancing at it. Wargame does this too, but in my opinion not as clearly. Tried it out and its definitely interesting. The pre-made lists with WiC- style resources and CoH-style retreats are cool, and the shifting objectives along with additional reinforcements are a neat idea to shake up defenses. The UI could use a bit of work although maybe I'm just not used to it yet; and it seems a little poorly optimized (still unfinished) so its not terribly responsive. Hopefully the issues get hammered out because it seems like a good evolution of ideas. Also specific q: since planes are off map assets is there any point in shooting one down after it's dropped its bombs?

Anybody played Zero K? It's free, I just downloaded it and played for about half an hour. It's based on the TA engine and very much fits in the Chris Taylor universe of RTS games. I think it's got potential. There's some innovative ideas for the command interface in particular. Other than that its very similar to Supreme Commander, including the performance issues I think. The feel of it lacks some of that studio polish, though, particularly the sounds, some of which I think are the same clips from the original TA. https://store.steampowered.com/app/334920/ZeroK/

C.M. Kruger posted:Another one worth looking at IMO is Regiments. It is essentially a (very indie) Wargame but by way of World in Conflict. You have Wargame style units but also have WiCs Tactical Assists, you add more units to your army by way of picking sets of "task force" units, and infantry carriers are organic to infantry so you don't have to gently caress around with reorganizing everything after taking some losses.

I can't find a Company of Heroes 2 thread, so asking in here. Is there anyone who is good/decent at COH2 and willing to play through some of the coop challenge maps/theater of war with me? I'm doing them for youtube, and trying to get through all of them for completeness sake. Normally I post this sort of stuff in LP but not this one for whatever reason. You don't have to be great, if you can easily beat a Hard CPU in skirmish you're probably good enough. You don't even have to talk if you don't want to, but chatting about WW2 stuff and RTS's would be fun.

I really wish they had some proper Desert Rats \ Italy and Western Europe allied operations and released the Soviet third chapter already. Have you tried battle academy? It's more tatical than strategic (maps are basically the size of a village or city, not entire regions). Alternatively, you said you're not down with Warhammer but between Armageddon, Sanctus reach and Adeptus Mechanicus, they have really great strategy games out there on their name Hell, i was also going to recommend Pike and Shot but then I might as well just share this bundle filled with sexy games: https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/slitherine-20-th-anniversary-bundle

McCoy Pauley posted:Is there any particular DLC for Order of Battle that is worth getting now that they're all on sale to various degrees? The Pacific and Marines campaign are very diverse, with the pacific campaign having tons of air and naval units units to play with while the Marines do the Island Jumping. I think they were the basis of the game and the quality shows. I've liked the Winter War a lot but it's not as conventional as the other DLCs. You control infantry (and elite ski infantry!) and a few old artillery pieces, otherwise the only tanks you get are captured vehicles and the rare hand me downs (you literally can't recruit tanks, only reinforce the ones you get along the way). You have to be very flexible and envelop the Soviets who have massive air, tank and artillery advantage. Kriegsmarine is a bit meh, only get it if you really need naval action. The Japanese vs China campaign is basically unique since i never saw this campaign portrayed anywhere else. You'll be drowned in massive Chinese infantry units while your 1936 tanks aren't exactly world beaters. Fun campaign, but you'll grind through a lot of units. Haven't bought the Red Army and Axis campaign yet, so i can't comment much on them. Burma lets you buy Churchills as a trap because they're basically immobile in the jungle maps that compose the campaign

I'm trying to dig up a game on steam and for the life of me I can't find it Here's what I can remember: Turn based, hex grid, bright colors almost mobile looking, maaaaybe elemental factions (can't remember specifics), Asian devs (but I don't know which country or language). I can't remember if it is or was in EA, and I don't know the exact release date but I want to say within the last year or two. Not a lot to go on, I've been scouring steam and I can't find it again

The winners from steam sale weren't really strategy games (Steamworld Quest, Outward, fun card based rpg in the Steamworld universe and eurojank rpg not made in euroland respectively) For the stuff that was strategy adjacent: Trials of Fire looks promising, though I'm not sure I like how action points are handled. Cards of Ash, DungeonTop, Wildermyth, and Legends of Callasia (same dev as last regiment I think) are ok For truly what the gently caress, check out Castle Battles and It Stared Back (not good games but what the gently caress is even going on with ISB) I didn't check The Last Hex but it looked interesting The only actual strategy games I've played recently are Age of Wonders Planetfall and Crying Suns and I'm not even sure the latter qualifies.

Zeus is probably the most fun; Emperor is the most advanced. imo just pick the one with the aesthetic you most prefer. The core gameplay is all the same, with the later games improving on and adding complexity to the formula.

The lizards are good, but they do have a bit of fragile start, with a lack of early defense mods. They have other things going for them, though. Also, there have been various balance changes but one post-release feature I’m obliged to point out if you join any goons in mp (we’re mid-end a mini tournament rn). You can now manually retry an auto-resolved battle if something key dies. Pretty helpful in keeping 1v1 both quick and not vulnerable to a low threat indie clearing. There’s some customization in game setup but it defaults unlimited in sp. It’s really goddamn nice.
