Proud to say I only participated in the suit harassment once, back when it was fresh. Also I didn't just say "post the suit"; I actually did a play on that one Lovecraft poem. I mostly like oohhboy's posting and I agree that you guys were too relentless with it. It's honestly not a funny enough joke to go on for so long, and he obviously didn't like it so that makes it pretty mean. It's the kind of thing you do to run someone out of a thread. Like it would be fine if it were with OXBALLS or one of the CSPAM tankies because gently caress them, but oohhboy didn't deserve it. Sorry dude. Anyway, after all the years I've spent here, I think the China threads have been my favorite. For some reason GBS seems to be the only place on the entire goddamn internet where this topic can be discussed rationally without people's idiotic right wing or left wing politics causing the conversation to devolve into either Nazism or CCP fellatio. I think it's the fact that China is nominally communist that causes so many people's brains to short circuit. Right wingers see all of the CCP's evil schemes and fuckups as "proof that socialism don't work!" and vindication of their orange clown lord. Lefties see the country as some kind of bold challenge to American capitalism and hegemony, and love to scream racism at any hint of criticism. I think the closest thing I've seen to another community that can actually discuss China without falling into these traps has been r/HongKong but I did still see a lot of dumbassery there, and in the end it's still Reddit, which is a place I'd prefer not to visit. Hopefully one of the offshoots will have a similar enough vibe to GBS to allow for the good China thread to flourish again.
