I'm guessing that if Trump had come out early in favor of masks the chuds would have made a point of wearing them. And probably he (or his buddies) would have made bank selling them MAGA masks, but at least more people would be wearing masks.

I wouldn't mind if maga masks were popular because at least people would wear them AND I would know who I can safely roll my eyes at and avoid conversation with. I mean I know to avoid maskless people anyway but it would be better if they weren't maskless.

Because it already looks immaculate around his eyes and hairline. A mask would at least hide his jowls! Maybe someone should point that out to him. He's vain as gently caress isn't he? Which is hilarious for someone so disgusting looking in every way.

So weird that more people don't want to wear masks, because anecdotally it increases your attractiveness by a thousand-fold. Not just because you think 'oh good, another fellow human taking this seriously', but also because it lets people hide their horrendous meth teeth, lovely beards, and hosed up voices! Masks all the time, I say!

It's like that one MAD magazine cartoon where the woman marries a guy with a fuckin' bodacious beard and then he shaves it off on their wedding night only to reveal he has no chin and looks like an amphibian.

Most CHUDs fall firmly in this category so you'd think they would be happy to capitalize!

"Contract tracing in Wanzhou (China) found 2,088 individuals who had been in close contact with COVID-19 patients. 215 of these people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR. Of these, 37 (17%) never developed obvious symptoms although most of them had lung opacities (evidence of infection).

The asymptomatic patients continued to shed virus for a median duration of 19 days whereas the patients with symptoms shed virus for a median duration of 14 days. However, the test for shedding virus is the very sensitive RT-PCR test and it doesn't necessarily detect active virus particles.

About 80% of infected patients (asymptomatic and symptomatic) developed antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 but the antibody levels were higher in the patients with obvious symptoms suggesting that a more severe infection leads to more antibodies. Antibody levels declined by more than 70% in all patients after eight weeks of convalescence and some patients tested negative for antibodies (IgG) after convalescence.

"Together, these data might indicate the risks of using COVID-19 ‘immunity passports’ and support the prolongation of public health interventions, including social distancing, hygiene, isolation of high-risk groups and widespread testing. Additional longitudinal serological studies profiling more symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals are urgently needed to determine the duration of antibody-mediated immunity. In addition, low levels of anti-viral IgG in asymptomatic patients, who might be more likely to become seronegative, further support the need for timely serosurvey to study the true infection rate."

I rent a row house in OH. Am I allowed to refuse entry to workers if they don't wear masks? I am getting windows measured for replacement, should only take a few minutes, I'll be gone when they do the actual work. I will put up a sign asking them to and saying I have free sanitary unused masks. Not really trying to get into a tentant/landlord dispute atm so I'll just hope the second route works.

I am simply not understanding why people in this country manages to find a way to divide on every possible aspect of human life.

It's like if I told someone a verifiable scientific fact that they need to breathe air in order to live, there will be a group of people who will argue and say they only need to breathe hydrogen sulfide. These people will argue that needing oxygen to live is a myth created by liberal elites and go find the nearest mushroom composting facility, breathe in as much hydrogen sulfide as possible, then instantly die to "own the libs."

There should be no debate about wearing a goddamn mask during a viral pandemic spread through aerosol droplets coming out of people's noses and throats. This culture in America of letting people believe whatever they want is literally killing people in greater numbers and at a faster rate than the goddamn Civil War.

If you're gone, I'm not sure why you care, beyond the general idea that everyone should wear masks. Or how you'd enforce it, for that matter.

Hmm, I thought I'd read that it didn't stay in the air that long. But googling suggests it can stay in the air for up to three hours, so yeah--good point. Still could be hard to enforce, though.

My understanding is that aerosol transmission only seems to be a large factor when you're spending long hours together indoors with poor ventilation, especially if it's noisy and you have to yell at each other, but it's not really lingering in the air for hours and passing from room to room through the vents like TB. Open the windows maybe.

There’s no proof of transmission human-surface-Human. The virus does just fine airborne. experts believe if there is surface transmission, it’s ineffective.

Edit: droplets eventually fall, they don’t just chill out forever in the air.

Zugzwang posted:

This is basically correct. Months ago, I heard a good interview with Dr. Peter Hotez discussing coronavirus vaccines. IIRC he said that they had identified a promising vaccine candidate for SARS-CoV-1 way back in the day, and then right before clinical trials in humans, funding was pulled because the original SARS burned out and funding agencies stopped caring. This one had passed through some animal testing and didn't show the antibody-dependent enhancement that prior CoV vaccine candidates did. And that's just one example.

Didn’t a candidate or two of the SARS vaccines kill a bunch of people? I can’t seem to find anything about it. Maybe I’m misremembering...
