I have a very clear memory of driving to my parents' house and howling laughing at this segment. It's insane that this was late 2015 and they've almost doubled the episode count since then

Every time they bring up how old they were when they started the podcast versus where they are now...it gets to a guy.

Plane crash for me is the best bit they have ever done. The story is so wild, Jon’s reaction is exactly what I was thinking: how much terror and panic would you be feeling the 2nd time dad is crashing a plane with your (new) family on it!

I always look forward to December cause I know there's an episode coming with both the sciti Christmas parade and the screenplay blacklist bits.

IIRC the University of Michigan, where plane crash kid was committed to play, not only honored his scholarship in full but also gave him an assistant role with the team while he was enrolled there, so there's at least a happy ending to that one.

The team was also in a plane crash a few years ago when they got blown off the runway during takeoff and he might have still been with the team then, sooooo

Stumbled into a compilation on Youtube so I don't have the episode number but it's the Black List from 2014

quote:

"Frisco: A fortysomething pediatric allergist who specializes in hazelnut and is facing a divorce learns lessons in living from a wise-beyond-her-years terminally-ill 15-year-old patient when she crashes his weekend trip to a conference in San Francisco."
Is that a movie that got made? I often recognize some from this annual bit like Bird Box but that sounds insane and is not ringing a bell.

Any good alternative sites to move to? I'm keeping an eye on the GBS threads but will probably not be coming on the forums for long if the whole things end with just trying to sweep this poo poo under the rug (again, apparently?).

Will miss this chill thread and all you fellow American Americans.

Everyone's going to various Discords, or that C-SPAM offsite, and I probably will too, but if the actual forums die threads about small pieces of Internet culture that aren't huge but have a devoted cult like this one, or the Achewood thread from BSS, are the ones that won't find a home and I'm gonna miss them the most.

Breadnroses seems pretty cozy so far, time will tell where it ends up going tho. It did feel nice to start over somewhere with a new av and username. It's obviously a smaller community so a lot less customized subforums and such, I dunno how many people would hang out and chat about UYD since even here the thread's preeeeeetty slow

I stumbled onto UYD in 2009ish, listened to about ten minutes, and quit. It didn't seem to be about anything, and the opening song was particularly long. A couple years later I found this thread, listened to the clips in the OP, and started listening to the show properly. Thank you for that.

I think he can hear you, Ray.
We're all still here for now and from what is being said in other threads things are being worked out behind the scenes. Essentially I think everyone wants a situation where the Lowtax is gone but the forums are here.

There's plenty of goon Discords flying around at the moment.

But just in case, Jonathan and Seth have been in and out of my life for years now and so has this thread. I'm usually one to read instead of posting but thank you all for making it fun to talk about these two guys and their little podcast. Those boys did it without anyone's help, without joining a network or loading it up with ads even when they could have made some extra money for themselves (when they clearly needed it). That they didn't because they cared about the people listening is a testament to them, and Lord knows its a rare rare thing.

The uyd sub reddit isn't that bad. It's relatively similar to this thread as in quite slow moving and laid back. I've definitely seen a few goon usernames from here posting there. If everything goes to poo poo it's better than nothing.

I disocvered UYD from it being posted about in a cool podcasts megathread and I thank whichever goon did that all those years ago.

yeah I discovered UYD from the threads sometime in the 300s.

I'll be pretty bummed if the forums die instead of being sold off to someone else, since it was such a big part of my life 15 years ago, and one of the few reminders of a weird period of my life. Sucks that Lowtax is such a piece of poo poo, but oh well, nothing lasts forever.

If this ends soon, Seatbelts!

Otherwise, hopefully people will still be around in a post-Lowtax world

SA also pointed me to the show back in the day, I checked the podcast recommendation thread in January of '09 and UYD was maybe the only non-niche/special interest show that multiple posters recommended. I downloaded a few episodes on the sweet new Zune I'd received for Christmas but didn't check them out until an ice storm knocked out my power and internet for hours. I think the first one I listened to was the two of them reading the nominees for the 2009 AVN awards.

"'I'm drowning!' 'In what?' 'BITCH JUICE!'"
"Praise the Load is awesome, Night of the Giving Head is awesome; I've seen Gag Factor."

I finished 801 on the home stretch of my run tonight...I'm caught up for the first time in like a year. The run up to 800/801 was so good.

I remember my first UYD episode vividly: June 21st 2012 Episode 328 because I didn't understand that the intro was just a full song. I heard it and just figured it was a song playlist podcast.

lol you and I started listening around the same time, my first episode was 322 and I remember being really confused early on that not only were the intro and outro different in a given episode, they also changed from episode to episode. Now I can't stand any podcast intro/outro longer than about 15 seconds save UYD, just because it's different every time!

Someday I'll get back to filling out the UYD intro/outro playlist on Spotify...
