I realize that this being a niche hobbyist product for niche hobbyist consumers absolutely factors into his review, but I can't help but be amused by the fact that every second thing he says about this case is a complaint about its design and at the end he's still like "absolutely buy it, it's expensive but worth the money!"

To be fair, I think the case was meant for a different Amiga and it was sort of compatible with the 1200.

The weird square DIN connectors used for the power socket have been completely unobtainable for years. The PCB with bare pins in kinda janky, but there isn't really a good way of doing it. Not including the little cover with the case is kinda lovely though.

At best, they should have made sure they included the 3d printed cover. At worst, they should have potted the exposed pins on the back. There's no real way to get away from the exposed pins on the other side, just make sure there is a big warning to install the PCB before applying any power. I don't know what kind of voltage and current goes through the power connector, but it's not a good idea to design it to be left exposed like that.

If I was doing that case mod, I'd probably do it for a A500, since A1200 are hideously expensive in Australia.

Then again, I am happy enough with the wedge shaped all in one format of the A500 and 1200

My main Commodore Amiga 500 home computer system is of the non-yellowing kind with the nice keyboard, but I've got two yellowed ones that I'd gladly chuck one of in a nice case using a modern power supply unit.

There was a video on his channel a few years back where he talked about being burnt out by the schedule of editing and uploading alongside things going on in his personal life and financial worry. He took a bit of a break and came back feeling better. May have been one of the anniversary videos.

Edit: Skimming through his videos it looks to have been this one https://youtu.be/DLmhCdkibbM

That video basically says he isn't burnt out though :v:

He admits that there was a period years before that video (which already is three years old) that he was running himself ragged, but the entire point of that video is him explaining his setup and how that lets him still really enjoy what he does.

I've been thinking about selling off my Sony Play Station home computer system as what with owning a Sony Play Station 3 home computer system there's basically no use for it. But these things you've posted ITT have convinced me that there really is no use for it :mmmhmm:

(Not gonna sell it tho because there's not really a market.)

LOL, you do you. There's a market for them depending on the build version. But I'm an idiot so currently own 3 phats, a PSOne and a mini. To be honest I rarely even play video games, it's more of muck about modding or getting weird addons that are one of my various stupid hobbies.

Speaking of Action Replay - didn't know there was one for Amiga:

The only time I have ever bought a GAMING MOUSE it was some Razer snake-named thing circa 2005 that had a really high DPI setting. It was very flat and symmetrical, and felt awful for gaming. I loved using it for photoshop and other image editing software, felt like a godsend at the time. It died in ~3 years.

Before and since then, I have always used free/extra USB wired mouses (mice?) from like Dell or HP office workstations and they all work great for do video game, no complaint. Never had any of them wear out or die. I got to Master Guardian I in CS:GO with my free/recycled keyboard and mouse and that's good enough for me.

Wireless battery powered keyboard or mouse can go Eat A gently caress Sandwich, don't even get me started on bluetooth bullshit. Never play a game you actually try to be good at with those.

My favorite type of delay-line memory is CRT memory (Williams Tube). It's simply a TV tube showing a pattern of dots, each representing one bit. A sensor reads the electrostatic charge of the pattern and refreshes the image until changed by the computer's instructions.

Modern day memory works in essence the same way with the stored bits being continuously refreshed, but of course it's all solid state instead of relying on the speed of sound in mercury or the fade time of phosphor.

No joke, these are super helpful for preventing & coping with RSI. There's a couple companies - Contour, Evoluent - that have been making them for years and those are pretty expensive. These days a bunch of cheap imported designs are available for $18-$25 and most of them seem ok. I use this wired Anker mouse and it's fantastic, though a bit light.

The classic Model M keyboard from the 80s is still being manufactured, and with USB plugs now: a company called Unicomp bought the rights and tooling from IBM. I've had one of their boards for five years and don't know how people live with anything else.

If you prefer something more modern, there are plenty of mechanical-switch options to choose from, all of which feel immeasurably better than the cheap rubber-dome boards that 99 percent of the desktop users in the world are typing on. We're actually in something of a keyboard golden age.

I had a Unicomp Model M at an internship back in 2008 or so. It felt nothing like a real Model M. The keys were mushy as hell, worse than any arbitrary Dell keyboard you'd find lying around. The trackpoint built in sucked too. Maybe they've improved them over the years.
