Wait that's got trans themes too? What. I think I only read like three pages of it, maybe? Just as long as. Wait, the author of Goblins is trans too y/n? I feel like that came up at one point.

Cat Mattress posted:It started as the latter and gradually moved toward the former. There's still a lot of nonsense about magic and aliens and and stuff, so it can be largely seen as wish fulfillment that the regular trans characters that were introduced (regular as in, they're trans and don't have magic powers to change their bodies accordingly) have been given magic powers to change their bodies accordingly pretty quickly after their introduction. Several of the main characters have been canonically established as genderfluid. Gnoman posted:Read this strip. Oh, perfect! Thank you both for this! One of the main characters of K6BD has spent the entire length of the comic trying to break out of her egg and accept herself as female, but is running up against the conformity and internalized poo poo she’s been dealing with her whole life. She is also an angel in stone armor who does kung fu.

Remalle posted:Yes, she is. You're not paying close enough attention. Page 15 has White Chain visibly upset about being labeled female, and she is taunted for it. It builds slowly from there but becomes a major part of the character! You get to journey along with her all the way from total self-denial to acceptance by peers. And her journey is still unfinished, so it could grow some more. It's wonderful.

Gnoman posted:Read this strip. There's a lot to unpack with EGS. It'd probably be easiest to say that the creator really enjoys bodily transformation on the level where it's probably a fetish, but it never gets up to the point where it's even porn-adjacent and it's handled relatively intelligently. It's also gradually acquired a lot of weird continuity over the years, so it's more or less impenetrable without a fan wiki.

This isn't the stars citizen thread, whatever the gently caress that is, so don't drag other posters about stars citizen in it. I mean, this isn't the El Goonish Shive thread either, but nobody is talking about El Goonish Shive specifically to call out other posters. That being said I get that each webcomic thread has its own community feel so if you'd all prefer to keep talking about trans representation in webcomics here you can do so, but I also think it's a good conversation worth having over in the general webcomics thread.

After binge reading all of K6BD, I decided to go back and reread OOTS from the beginning. It's really been fun watching the strip crawl out of the gag-a-day doldrums and develop into an entertaining story. I have two observations I want to make at this time. First, I love you Rich and OOTS, but 282 is an abomination of a comic strip. I'm keeping this one bookmarked for the next time I need to crush some random passerby under a metaphorical mountain of words. Second, 379 is a hoot. I want a PDF of nothing but Shojo chaos dunking on Roy for like 30 straight pages, please.
