Is a man not entitled to the haw of his maw?
Grimey Drawer
I remember the day we got cable. I got home from school and went to watch transformers but couldn't because there local channel wasn't the same channel on the cable box as it was on air, so basically I lost an episode of that and I think gi joe because I had no idea how to work the remote.

Mom made me cinnamon rolls though so it wasn't all bad.

The worst day was when we changed our phone number by a digit. loving had to do it the day I needed to call home for something (a pencil or some school supply poo poo), next thing I know I'm in second grade having a freakout because I'm positive my parents left me at school for them to raise and drove off to bermuda or something, because the phone number I KNEW was mine was disconnected or no longer in service.

The phone company changed the prefix on the number by just one digit, THAT DAY, and no one told me cause I was like 6 or 7. Bad timing all around.

Oh about 4 channels, I remember when we had two-and-a-half. The third one had a time slot on channel 2 (I think) and that was the only time we had commercials on TV. Hey now, at least regional Nelonen and TVTV switched to porn from the test pattern around 0200 so you didn't need no fancy dial-up Internets or Moon TV to learn that stuff.

Just lay down and think happy thoughts.

Anyway I grew up in a deep valley in northern California where broadcast TV signals from the Bay Area (where civilization was) could not reach. So our little valley set up a repeater antenna on a nearby mountain and funded it as a community co-op. It worked great, except when they would do their annual pledge drives and would put a shonky wavy text crawl along the bottom of the screen saying SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TV REPEATER CO-OP. I bet it served to entrench lots of residents' feelings about communism, both pro and con

This was prior to satellite becoming a thing, and to this day cable and DSL refuse to run lines out to the homesteads so my parents were on 28.8 dial-up until like 2015

Just checking up on this

quote:

Announcement: Spring 2020

<co-op> will be making some big changes this spring:

- The FCC has auctioned-off your free television channel frequencies to cellular phone companies. We didn't have any control over this, and most of our TV stations will be affected.
- As a result, we are in the process of moving our TV stations to new frequencies. This has required obtaining new broadcast television licenses from the FCC.
- Making these changes is very expensive, and <co-op> has received no reimbursement from the FCC or phone companies for any of these expenses.
- <co-op> will continue with digital broadcasts, but will be terminating all analog broadcasts. If you want to still use your old analog TV, you will need a Digital TV converter box.
- We will do our best to bring as many stations back on the air as possible.

4 seasons is just too much cognitive load, every region seems to try and collapse it to two.

Growing up in the Midwest we joked there's 2 seasons, winter and highway construction.

Now in the south the joke is there's two seasons, hot and brown.
