Consider - you know the name of the third most recurring character. Who are you people still watching enough television advertising in the year 2020 to know the long-term development of Progressive commercial characters? Last I heard I thought they were retiring the Flo character because people got too horny about her. Maybe that was some other brand's female ad mascot...

"Black Lives Matter" is fine because it reads as internal American fecklessness, hypocrisy and disorder. Which China is obviously fine with.

Yeah but China is pretty big on making sure support for minorities doesn't spread into their people's consciousness.

Speaking as someone who has lived on the westside of Chicago for pretty much their entire adult life, surprise fireworks are pretty cool and you get used to them. If they're going off at like 2am on a Tuesday it can be annoying, but I doubt Macy's will do that.

Not to mention being loud as gently caress and traumatizing. A triviality in comparison to people's legitimate fears about getting shot, but another issue with this poo poo is craaazy numbers of pet dogs and cats who will panic and run off when 'suprise fireworks' go off. I keep my pup in at Halloween because he panics, but I can't protect him as much from totally unexpected daytime fireworks at random times. I was in a park one time when some lovely kids started letting them off; multiple people's dogs ran far away and across busy roads because they were so afraid.

Folks who've been in warzones, or been victims of shootings, or even just lived my lovely-rear end neighborhood where "pop pop pop" on any non-holiday usually means someone just got shot? If it's 4th of July, you can expect them and do whatcha gotta do to prepare for it (same for dog owners), but random explosive noises don't sound like a great idea right now, especially in NYC. fake edit: yeah, and what Pookah said.

My roommate's dog never cared about fireworks much (probably cause we lived in Humboldt Park so he was used to random gunshots and stuff), but he sure as hell hated the air and water show.

Every dog my parents and my self have owned in my whole life were terrified of thunder and fireworks.Pookah posted:I was in a park one time when some lovely kids started letting them off; multiple people's dogs ran far away and across busy roads because they were so afraid. What year did this happen? I grew up with the assumption that there were neighborhood dogs that would just wander but were not stray. I don't think I've seen anyone treat their dog that way in 20 years though. There are entirely fenced-in "good dog parks" where you don't need a leash. I've never seen a loose dog outside them in... a long rear end time. People just let their dogs run free and then are shocked when they react to a loud thing? Do you live somewhere without leash laws? Those aren't just made to restrict dog owners. They protect dogs from going into a panic and darting across a busy road... I am assuming the park where "some lovely kids" set off fireworks was otherwise a good place to walk your dog, but if it's within distance of a busy road with no barriers why are there dogs with no leash? Is this a "big city thing"? If you really want to let your dogs go hog wild and off the hook, you can find state protected land within a day's drive. Unless you live in like, Singapore?
