Impkins Patootie posted:it's Paul Bonnacci he had flown up to Chicago after a long time of chasing pictures of abuse with the Franklin accusers and Larry King. He brought his son along as a cover to a baseball game because he was repeatedly warned his lines were tapped. After meeting with the photographer (who confirms they met) he called multiple people saying that his trip was a “success” and “ we have them by the short hairs now”. He died flying home with his son and his briefcase was never recovered.

If you want to talk about serial killers who may have been connected to a network then Dean Corll's bizzare tale is noteworthy. Be warned that his story is a particularly gruesome and upsetting one. Wikipedia posted:During a routine investigation in March 1975, the Houston police discovered a cache of pornographic pictures and films depicting young boys. Of the 16 individuals depicted within the films and photos, 11 of the youths appeared to be among the 21 victims of Dean Corll who had been identified by this date.[252] The discovery raised the disturbing possibility that the statements Corll had given to both Henley and Brooks prior to his murder that he was associated with an organization based in Dallas that "bought and sold boys"[214] may indeed have held a degree of truth. The discovery of the material in Houston in 1975 subsequently led to the arrest of five individuals in Santa Clara, California.[252] No direct link in these arrests to Corll was proven, as Houston police declined to pursue any possible link to the killings, stating they felt Corll's victims' families had "suffered enough".[252]

since people have brought up DEN, does anyone know if there’s a full upload of the chads world pilot? I saw there’s like a half one on YouTube and another with some people talking over it but it is surreal how openly they depict shackley/Collins-rector story

is there any other material out on laurel canyon besides mcgowan's book. I read almost all of it recently but it sucks. there's obviously so many weird things going on but the book is way too much wandering off into the bios of rockstars and "coincidence? i think not" in lieu of any investigative work. I assume that last bit isn't surprising because he pieced the book together from details gleaned from other journalists puff pieces but still, it seems like such fertile ground for investigation. Also, I had read CHAOS and Nick Bryant beforehand so it definitely paled compared to those

Which is why I refer to it as a hypothesis, it needs a ton more fleshing out before it can properly called a thesis. We may never get one. O'Neil's reporting is fantastic and there is none there either. Bryant's book is next for me.

Serial killers are still fairly common, it's just that modern ones that get caught don't have the 30+ years of history behind them like the Bundy, Gacy, and the other big boys. Don't forget that the ones we hear about are the ones who are either dumb enough, unlucky enough, or bored enough to get caught. Technology has also progressed to the point where budding, stupid serial killers are caught earlier in their carriers so they don't reach Bundy numbers. Even today, though, getting away with serial murder isn't difficult so long as you clean up evidence and kill people society doesn't care about. Kill outside your neighborhood, or ideally state, target minority sex workers, keep your car maintained and papers in order, and don't leave any intentional calling cards, and you will get away with it unless you're caught in the act or get pulled over by a cop who "smells weed" and finds your serial killer kit. That said, I'm also talking about your standard process/product killers who do it for their own jollies. Epstein and company, who no doubt killed their victims to quiet them, bring to mind more of the old mafia stereotype of being "just business." Not saying that isn't how Epstein and his crew got their rocks off, or right now the best we can do is speculate based on evidence, and the evidence points pretty definitively to deaths around Epstein being at least partially disposal.

Also, Serial Killings were replaced by Mass Shootings in terms of impact on the public consciousness. I'd argue that those killings appeal more to the narcissist types that want notoriety.

The Highway of Tears was exactly what I was thinking about writing that post, along with a ol' Willie Pickton and his targeting of addict First Nations sex workers in east Vancouver, when an almost-victim went to the cops to be turned away and ignored despite the severe cuts and bruises on her. The general thought of the Vancouver PD at the time was that First Nations sex workers going missing made their own jobs easier.
