Already got 8lbs of beans from the first three rows, maybe 8 more through the next week until they burn out, then the next beds will start coming up.

can i plant so many beans around my other stuff that they get too much nitrogen and slow down fruiting to focus on leaves?

When you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.
My peppers all appear to have some sort of disease. I first saw browning/spotting and leaf curl on 2 of them and tried cutting back all of the affected looking leaves (sanitizing scissors between cutting) but now even the healthier looking ones are starting to show browning. When I've had this in the past pruning has been enough to hold off disease and they power through and look great by mid summer, but it seems to be getting worse. On the worst peppers its showing up on even new leaves. Should I cut bait and pull the whole plants out at this point? Should I just let them go and see if they overcome or can that give me soil issues I'll have to deal with next year anyway?

are you sure it's a disease and not a nutrient deficiency of some kind? those symptoms can be caused by a lot of nutrient problems. spotting can be calcium toxicity, for example

Will you stop going crazy in there?

probably not. living legumes don't return a ton of nitrogen to the soil, and afaik it's up for debate if much at all makes it to neighbors. the big benefit with companion planting beans is that they basically don't take any nitrogen away from nearby plants.

my cucumbers are basically surrounded on all sides by insane numbers of beans and they're flowerin' and fruitin' like crazy

I suppose I'm not sure, I'm very much an amateur. Googling pictures of calcium toxicity looks similar to what I'm seeing, it just seemed odd that 2 of the 4 pepper plants in this bed were having issues the last month and the other 2 weren't (until now at least). I'll try to get a picture later, but what would be the best way to confirm and treat that?

nice, thanks. i'm also using a 2-1-1, so maybe i'll toss some phosphorus in there and see what happens

you can google all kinds of interplanting combos. diversity supposedly reduces pests overall, and improves things but can be tricky. Its mostly about maximizing space with stuff that won't interfere with each other. Like onions in between lettuces

depends on your fertilizer. you might have a lot of calcium in your water, you might have it in your fertilizer, or it could be something else. maybe different parts of your soil were more nutrient rich than others? spreading from plant to plant could certainly be some kind of plant disease, not sure what different ailments peppers can suffer from.

I'm not really sure how to confirm it other than also ruling out other nutrient deficiency/toxicities/plant diseases. if your water is too high in calcium (not sure how likely this is) you might have to filter it somehow before you water plants with it. if it's your fertilizer you could try mixing in less.

Really wish I didn't live in an apartment and had the space to really experiment with hydroponics, I've had an idea for 3D printed aerophonics towers stuck in my head for weeks.

I'll have some mega roma pics in like a month.

I'm done with beans at the moment, we harvested about 54 lbs. I canned and froze a bunch. Still a shitton outside but just going to let it go and collect the big seeds/save them. Might see if they are any good dried, though these varieties are mostly green beans so maybe not great dried beans.

And cucumbers came in so I have a ton of those now.

A bunch of sauce, paste, whole tomatoes.

So I have all these bush beans sitting now, they are done flowering. But still plenty of beans that I dont even want at this point. The golden wax are getting big, but the others not so much.

At what point do I cut them down? I want to save some seed for next year but some pods aren't drying/looking big enough yet. I can't find any good info on how long that takes to happen, like 90 days total or what?
