Imagine a world that the only people who are still fertile are those who made it for the two years without getting infected until they could get a vaccine. Basically, what I'm saying is by staying at home I'm saving myself for the breeding pools in 2023. If you mean travel restrictions and mandatory quarantines and such for those who do travel then yeah, those are already in place pretty much everywhere.

I'm writing a novel about an everyday citizen in the post-apocalypse where 80% of the population is dead and the rest are prisoners of mother nature in their own homes, wary of opening the door or the windows and letting in kamikazi death flu. At the end of the novel the protagnoist finds a terminal in an abandoned library that connects to the internet and discovers that the apocalypse was restricted to America. Every other country is living their normal circa 2019 lives.

Even with seroprevalence testing suggesting 10x the number of infected, that's still only 1/7th of the way there (which would be of course, catastrophic). Is this a right wing media talking point somewhere? It's likely much worse; there is mounting evidence that most asymptomatic carriers don't develop significant immunity. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0965-6#Sec8 So more like 200 million symptomatic cases, that would be something like 80 million hospitalized and would doubtless be waay more than a 1% mortality rate with that kind of crushing numbers. The really gross part is that to actually get those number of symptomatic case immunities, you'd not only need to infect *everyone* but also endlessly re-infect the asymptomatic until you got enough properly sick. Gross as hell, but I have faith that Trump 2021 can actually advocate that as a "plan". (Just to be clear I doubt this could ever 'work' and there are way too many unknowns (immunity duration etc) to consider herd immunity) Blitter fucked around with this message at 04:30 on Jul 9, 2020 |

I wonder if we’re ever going to get a confirm/deny on whether the unusually severe respiratory virus going around in North America in late November through December was early COVID. Whatever it was, it certainly had a lasting effect on my lungs.

Strains of covid have been continuously tracked and if there was a regional variant that was present in the US in November it would absolutely been found in subsequent analysis. See https://nextstrain.org/ncov and other similar projects that have been tracking, mapping and documenting timelines of the virus propagation.
