Therefore, when they sell these calls, the usually hedge by buying some nominal quantity of regular shares. That's a real dumb explanation of "gamma," where prices refuse to go past certain numbers someone is buying lottery tickets

god all this stuff about people forced to give up their pets fucks me up. i know that human suffering is worse and this is a stupid pampered first world POV but animals love us too and they don't understand why their owner has to abandon them. i remember this cat had to be surrendered by a family facing homelessness last year and the note they left was so loving sad, it went viral and i was tearing up reading it. gently caress.

Divot posted:Can someone who's not a dummy wrt finance (like me) explain what this means calls are when you purchase the right (but not the obligation) to purchase shares of a company at $X price within a given time period. the shorter the time period, the greater the price difference from the time you purchase the option, and the lower the volatility of the underlying stock the cheaper they are. those are the three variables that determine option pricing with a call option the idea is that you just immediately call in the purchase of the shares below market price and then immediately sell. stock doesnt even exchange hands, the call issuer just gives you the price difference so if tesla goes above $2,500 before the option expires they get the difference the current price and the option price. multiplied by 100 because options are sold in units of 100 IE a $1.50 call option for $2,500 is actually $150, because the $1.50 represents the price per share of the option. they are betting that people will keep throwing money at tesla and taking long odds on a pretty daring bet. i dont follow options but they likely bought this one becasue even though it's a long shot its the cheapest option you can buy for tesla, which has been extremely volatile cumshitter fucked around with this message at 20:25 on Jul 10, 2020 |
