I remember a friend of mine was in an ambient band, and when I went to see them in the early 2010's, I just stood there all 'what the gently caress is this'. Not that it was bad, it wasn't really music at all. That was my ambient story, like and subscribe for more content.

I'd argue Radigue is a nice relief from Caretaker's position on life and memory being ongoing, amoral processes of disintegrating organic systems, or even Lustmord's creepy sewer darkness, since her approach to meditating on death is influenced by her deep commitment to Tibetan Buddhism. There's a lot of comfort and gentle happiness in her works; when she composes around the theme of dying it's from the perspective that death is not just a natural, but ultimately good, transition from one state of being to the next.

Funny part is I get kind of a weird enjoyment out of how strange & creepy it is. The guy who made the Caretaker stuff really does awesome work & this series really makes you feel like you're losing your mind when you're really not. I can't imagine how terrifying it must be for people going through dementia or Alzheimer's, knowing that something is wrong & they're powerless to stop it.

I worked in a psych unit and we had a few patients with early stage dementia. One guy kept shaking his head saying "I don't know, I don't know" If anything, this gave me a greater compassion/empathy for people like him, even if it only expressed a fraction of what they go through. Powerful stuff. Looks to the Moon has a new favorite as of 23:34 on Jul 18, 2020 |

Looks to the Moon posted:I love this Yeah, she's a pretty interesting artist who diverged Musique Concrete as she delved more into Tibetan Buddhism. Like a lot of drone music, you wouldn't know what the themes were unless someone told you\you had the album liner notes in front of you, but yeah, she's not really a doom and gloom type person; more of a Bardo Thodol enthusiast, and a lot of her albums are meant to explore the experience of this mystical, structured act of dying, which has spooky aspects to it, granted, but is ultimately about liberation from suffering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMfGLNrLvGA There's also video out there of her composing and it's pretty interesting to watch, because you see how active her process of making drone was. She's there with a stopwatch, feeling it out, adjusting knobs as need be to maintain a dynamic flow.

Counterpoint: Triptych is creepy af It's awesome that Eliane is still alive and composing in her 80s now. Haven't listened yet, but I read she is into acoustic instruments now

So MyHeritage.com has a new feature where they can "animate" your old family photos, so that they literally turn into the pictures from harry Potter where people are moving and smiling. The main page has several examples in the gallery below: https://www.myheritage.com/deep-nostalgia I'd try to just link the photos/videos, but it's not a simple video/image I can right click and copy/save. I could get some screen recording software but... https://i.imgur.com/hTj6QOo.mp4

Years ago some company did something similar, only you could also type in text that the photo would speak in a robot voice. You'd set little sliders to determine where the eyes and mouth were in order for it to stretch the photo appropriately. I used Goatse. The creepy part to me isn’t so much making old photos move, but they all move the same way regardless of age, muscle placement, or era. None of the little quirks a the living person might have had like a brow twitch, a smirk, a subtle wink....nothing that really defines that person as a human who once lived.
