I really enjoyed Idol Hakkenden as a cheerful and comical story about a girl who wants to become a super-idol with the help of friendship. Wandersong is another really cheery game about a bard who wants to save the world via singing.

In general I also tend to go for anything by Many A True Nerd or NerdCubed when I'm down, since they provide a lot of lighthearted silliness in their videos, but that's a different style.

I'd want to add Chorps' various one-video LPs, especially the videos of the 'hap Inc.' games starting with Hidden My Game By Mom, though they all have that Chorpsaway charm.

Semi-related to that recommendation, I'd absolutely love to see someone do the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy sometime. I was gonna just rewatch Jordan and Ikwaylx's LPs of the originals in the interim but the videos have all been made private so that's not an option. I do still love to rewatch Envisioned's take on them every now and then, but it's really hard to ignore that the videos themselves are as visually clear as mud nowadays.

The glow is a guide, my friend. Though it falls to you to avert catastrophe, you will never fight alone.
Since Kingdom Under Fire:Crusaders and its sequel, Heroes came out on steam recently, It's a little easier to look at now, and a lot easier to play and record.

It's old as poo poo, and it comes with its fair share of jank. Still relatively unique and plenty of fond memories playing it.

Edit: Since I didn't specify despite my brain totally swearing I did, the liar; a hybid LP is probably best. You do kind of need video to show the game's 'charm' off, but the game is repetitive to watch. The levels can be screenshot LP'd without losing much.

It's still in the beginning stages (I guess), but I'll recommend Sibyl Disobedience's Soulsborne series LP... well, if you want to call it an LP, it's more of a heavily illustrated thesis paper on thematic connections, aesthetic details and semantic structures in those games. Put simply, it's unlike any LP I have ever seen and I'd encourage everyone with even a passing interest in Dark Souls and/or Bloodborne to at least look at it; the analysis is fascinating even when you don't agree with the conclusions.

The main route is over but Bacter's Darkwood LP is fantastic and subtitled with no voice acting. You'll want some sound because it's part of the creep factor, but it doesn't need to be high, I don't think. And there's going to be at least a few more videos of other runs.

I have never completed an LP but I'd love to do Death Road to Canada in the current climate. I'm not sure if I can pull it off. It would have to be video, which I can kinda sorta do but not very well, but I'm about as vocally interesting as a soup cracker, so I'd have to subtitle it (and again something I kinda sorta know how to do but not very well) or get an interesting commentator. Yeah, and I'd suggest just trying voice. Different people consider different types of commentary entertaining and if you're at all enthusiastic about the game it should end up being interesting - we've had funny LPs, informative LPs, deconstructive LPs... But in most of them, the real star of the show is the game, and that's fine.
It might be a good idea to jot down a few notes for what you want to talk about for this particular video before recording the commentary to stay on track, though.

I agree with anilEhilated. One of my biggest regrets is letting insecurity about my voice keep me from getting started sooner than I did. If you're passionate about the game and enjoy the recording process, you're likely to find it ends up being more interesting to people than you imagine.

I'm not a good speaker in any form but so far all of my LP's have been video and most of them I've done commentary on the fly. I'm well aware that I stutter and am prone to mispronunciation when I get nervous. I'm my own biggest critic, I wont go into details of the anxiety of starting a new LP.

If you have the software then you could always do post-commentary, which means you can have more control over what you're saying and when.

I'd like to echo what aniEhilated and Strategic Sage said. My first LP was a game that I was passionate about, I had a lovely mic and the most basic of software and it's still my most watched LP eight years later. Even after investing in new equipment and software over time. I had no idea what I was doing at the time apart from trying to emulate other people's formats.

Do what you feel is within your boundaries. If you're wanting to cut your teeth with co-commentary then I'm sure someone will be interested. If you want to start with subtitles then build up then that's fine. If you're passionate about the game it will show regardless, whatever you decide the effort will be noticed.

Good luck with getting the LP started!

Edit: Has co-commentary requests been moved to one of the pinned threads or is it still in it's own separate thread?

The Co-Commentation Station was unpinned last year, but it's still semi-active. The LP Discord (now largely taken over by the LP Beach, but still) is also a good place to poke around for potential co-commentators based on the sheer number of LPers and LP posters who've landed there lately.

Just be careful and do your proper vetting because it's always a risk when you're dealing with other people on the internet for whatever reason.

Subs are way harder than just talking. The first couple episodes of my first LP were pretty bad. I was wooden and my equipment was crap. Also I'm a woman but sound like a 12 year old boy over the internet. Eventually after a few episodes I found my stride and it got much better. If you're really extremely worried do a test post in the sandcastle, but I'm betting you'll do fine.

supergreatfriend, while no longer active on SA, will be doing a full (extremely full, knowing him) playthrough on his YouTube channel. It won't be like his regular streams, though; he's going to play it through first and then do a 100% run in installments for the viewing public. This is pretty much the reason I've only done subtitled LPs. I've done some voice guesting recently but I wouldn't even consider starting a voiced LP on my own at this point, especially since I think I've found my style/niche by now? I also have a workflow for subbing stuff by now, which... is not a minor consideration; I'd have to learn/try/troubleshoot a whole new batch of stuff (which is still fun in its own way, mind), and :effort:

I'm not making an argument for subs over voice, mind, just oversharing how I ended up doing them. I'd say try out a couple things to find your "voice"? Record some footage, then try recording some voiced commentary for it (or do it live) and see how you like it, then try getting some subs in. Maybe your type of commentary comes across better as subs. Maybe your voice is not as terrible as you think and you nail it. And just maybe , nobody cares about your voice as long as your stuff is good. Another reason I don't do voiced, I don't want to test this theory :v:
And now, at the risk of sounding self-aggrandizing: If you do end up making subbed stuff though give a shout if you run into any tech issue or if you just want some general "getting started" pointers, be happy to share what little I know.

Eltimar Gaming does exactly this, has a huge backlog of classic CRPGs, and churns out videos at a remarkable pace. He does read the text when there's no voice acting, which there's a lot of in games like this, but he doesn't do dumb voices for it. His content is overall very pleasant and straightforward and carries well even into the 100+ hour RPGs.
