I think he's notable because he's one of the few English-speaking pro-China accounts that's actually Chinese, instead of a white tankie in their bedroom. He does a podcast on Chinese History and the Silk Road.

If you ignore his biases, he's a better source for the pro-China camp than most, but obviously has the same issue of denialism over Xinjiang / Tibet that everyone pro-China does.

Carl Zha tweeted out in the beginning of Corona (around the "just a flu" phrase), his nephew who lives in California had a pro long fever for a few days. Carl's sister tried to get him tested for Covid and the CA medical officials just flat out refused. And he linked to a huge thread in huaren.us. I wonder what happen to the nephew. I don't want to creep on his personal life I just hope its not some other more obscure disease. I don't worry about a teenage getting the actual Corona.

If it makes you feel better about it, many teenagers have or will get COVID, but almost none of them will get anything more notable than a nasty flu-like illness.

On this. Isn't it super hard to leave The Party anyway? As in, you have to provide reasons, and it takes a long time to process paperwork, and there are restrictions on what you can and can't do and say even once you have dealt with the rigmarole they put you through. And they still keep tabs on you once you have left, and you are still subject to all the rules etc. I also heard that if you are a low level Party member, you have to apply for permission and fill in paperwork for any sort of travel/work change/house move/etc. anyway? Coz the higher ups in the CCP assume you are a security risk anyway.

In case people don't know, it is common to be a party member if you're just a good student or something. It's not necessarily analogous to being a member of a political party or political movement in the US. I know someone who was a party member just out of highschool, but became disillusioned with them pretty quickly. They haven't paid their dues in over a decade and are hoping they no longer qualify as a member, but I know it's stressing them out. They're pretty vocal about their problems with the CCP, so it would suck if they got caught up in this. I supposed the government could even use this as a weapon - "yep, they're a member, send 'em over!"

Actually if you immigrate out of Cbina and stop paying the party due, you automatically quit the party. You don't need to write a letter of "resignation". Don't ask me how I know.

All these "HK laws" Trump passed in front of the election, he is not going to use any of it. I bet 1 dollar nobody will actually get sanctioned by any of these new laws either. And HK is not going to lose its independent trade status, since HK is the single largest trade surplus partner of United states.

Hong Kong being the US's largest net export market isn't saying much since the surplus is only $33 billion. For reference, the US's trade deficit with China is $375 billion, and its overall trade deficit with the world is $795 billion. The surplus with Hong Kong is better than nothing, but not exactly a critical dependency for the US economy.

Well we will just see whether Trump will do it will we? He has what, 3 months? My money is on he won't.

BTW if the HK election go on without delay (which I think it might), Beijing will definitely clamp down on the yellow ribbon law makers. What I am saying is Beijing will play the HK cards hard in respond to the US playing SCS cards. Beijing has a lot more resource in the "HK theater" compare to the Taiwan and SCS "theaters", Beijing will play offense in the HK area.

The Falun Gong have tried to one-up the CCP in terms of Han ethnic nationalism for a while now. Shen Yun is probably the leading cause for why so many people in the US believe that China has 5,000 years of history.

It always felt like they leaned into this stuff because it would give them more legitimacy, as if being more diehard about ethnic nationalism makes you a better Chinese.
