All the sane people were questioning the De Gea renewal when it happened (making a keeper already on the decline the world's highest paid keeper with an insanely long contract when you have promising options for replacing him) but it's starting to look downright sanchez-esque now.

There's plenty of matches to point a finger at if we miss out on top four. Trying to overturn a deficit in a cup semi final isn't one of them.

It 100% absolutely is. Instead of looking at the past you can make the smart decision now and prioritize the league game, which is going to literally be a 100 million pound game.

If United miss out on the Champions League they are hosed with a capital F financially. Compared to that trying to win a cup game should be by far the second priority. You can't change the past, but you can be smart in the now instead of going "well we hosed it up months ago, nowt to do now!"

And oh look, now Greenwood has a head injury.

I don't give a gently caress about spreadsheets either, but I do care about improving the team.

Going for it in the first place? Fair enough. But when it's 0-2 at 65 minutes, start looking to the future.

Well just as an example when your main creative player has already looked completely gassed for the past few games, maybe don't play him for ~an hour and 40 minutes when you have two absolutely must win games coming in the next 7 days.

We could draw those "must-win" games and finish 4th. Or lose to WHam and beat Leicester. Trying to win a cup semi-final is... good? Worth the risk anyway.

Looking at the amazing defensive performance today, Bruno being dead on his feet and de Gea's current form, taking a laissez-faire attitude towards those two games is lunacy.

If United aren't ahead on points for the Leicester game, they can just play for a draw because they have a better goal difference.

Considering how shaky the team have been all this season, how the hell do you not give yourself all the advantages to those games you can get?
