Orv posted:Magicka and Noita are really kind of the two ones I can think of. Noita might not really qualify because it's entirely possible to have many, many runs as a roguelike where you don't get to turn entire screens into blood soup but it comes together often enough that I'd recommend it for this request. there are not really that many good wizard games, and all great I can think of are also 2D and older, nothing in the 3D FPS/TPS verse. Magicka is great when getting used to the slight inconvenient casting. There is also Witch It but it has an entirely different charm to it as FPS/TPS magic casting. There was an interesting Wizard game released 2019 but I forgot which one it was. It was more in the way of Magicka as well with more strategy things added. Something about towers... I don't remember. Lichdom was the only one to my knowledge that attempted to do something like Dark Messiah but they just butchered the idea into a sloggy mess.

The original grabbed me with tight, brutal level design and when it ended I had the same complaint as everyone else: "Wait, that's it?" So along comes MCD with the air of a massive smug shitpost about the criticism of the first game being too short by showing you a credits roll 5 minutes in, telling you to your face there's no point to continuing, and then throwing you into a massive web of nodes through which the only point is gradually grinding out new ability unlocks by playing the same... maybe 20 or so levels with randomized spawns (some of which I swear spawn directly from your blind spot rather than any actual doorway) over and over and over again. Granted some of the unlocks are ridiculous and fun as hell to use, and this was free, but it still feels like a joke that didn't quite hit its mark. a cat irl posted:Mgs3 is still GOAT tho Except for that loving escort section, and having to manually switch camouflage patterns every couple minutes. Peace Walker sorta fixed that by forcing you to stick with one for the entire mission.

Any Company of Heroes 2 players around? Can you explain how satchel charges work and the point of molotovs? I select to use the satchel charge on enemies soldiers but it doesn't seem to do anything. Does it only work on buildings? As for molotovs, it takes about 10 minutes to throw one and the damage it does seem to be nonexistent? An enemy squad can stand in the fire and nothing seems to happen. Meanwhile they throw a grenade and you have .5 seconds to move your squad or else it just dies. Seems like the Soviets are positioned as having the shittiest imaginable unit abilities with conscripts being really bad but somehow they still cost a lot. The Shock Troop commander seems to be required if you want them at all to be useful.

It seems ninja magic is back too.

Jimbot posted:Any Company of Heroes 2 players around? It's been years since I played COH2, and I only played PVP, but satchels just take a long time to explode, unless they've changed the mechanics. Some units (engineers I think) can also place demo charges that have to be detonated manually by clicking the plunger icon that shows up where it was placed so they might have made satchels work like that. Molotovs...aren't great, they're mostly for burning troops garrisoned in buildings, or forcing an MG to retreat. They do damage over time and if your opponent isn't paying attention they can burn clustered units to a crisp, eventually. Mordja fucked around with this message at 00:37 on Jul 21, 2020 |

Jimbot posted:Any Company of Heroes 2 players around? TBH, I played way more of the better and gooder CoH OG so hopefully im not mixing them up but, Satchel charges work on buildings and any static weapons. Basically if the Germans have an unattended MG camped out in a house locking an area down you can satchel it destroying the house for the future and taking out the squad in it if unattended. Works better if you can do something active elsewhere on the map requiring attention as well at the same time. A more niche use is if say you catch an AT gun with a lone squad need the enemy not to have it but cant capture it due to a superior infantry force advancing you can deny it. Moltovs simply force infantry out of cover/statics, get MGs to packup. Expensive for what you are getting. Its best to avoid using either early if it can be helped. Instead CAP and fight somewhere else, having an extra man in the squad is more forgiving of mistakes an aggressive early game looking to bleed the enemy of manpower. Vet PPsH conscripts are pretty fierce. dogsupremacy fucked around with this message at 00:38 on Jul 21, 2020 |
