Football exists solely to sell the product to as many people as possible. The reason you make team names bland and inoffensive is for the millions upon millions of puds out there that love bland and inoffensive.

There's military bases all over the DC area so Sentinels pays tribute to that. I don't think military names should be mixed into the league at all but I don't decide the name.

Doltos posted:

Why does everyone in TFF think football names should be something zazzy. Every football name is boring. It's the point.

It doesn't have to be "zazzy" just have some sort of significance. Like Ravens. Theyre for edgar allan poe and also theyre a bird thats around and even nests at the stadium. Or Steelers has an obvious meaning. None of those are zazzy they just make sense and have something behind them.

So for Washington i see redtails as the obvious choice as it has significance with the tuskeegee airmen plus it can also be for red-tailed hawk. And it even sounds like the old name except with the bonus of not being a racial slur. So you cant go wrong with it. Thats the kind of name you should aim for just something with some level of significance.

Titans was explicitly chosen by the AFL franchise because the Titans were said in mythology to be bigger and stronger than Giants. That was straight AFL vs NFL stuff.

How does either a red-tailed hawk, which is common throughout the continent, or the members of a WWII fighter group trained in Alabama (the common name for whom comes from where they were trained in Alabama) have any specific relevance for a Washington team?
