i don't think the narrative is window dressing when half of why it's good is cause of the character relationships and the narrative directly ties it all together with the animation in a way that would purely be weaker without it like yeah the animation's beautiful but part of why it's beautiful is cause the entire show is about the beauty the characters put into it

I haven’t read the eizouken manga, but people ask the same thing about the nichijou manga and as someone who owns all 10 volumes I say it’s possible for a manga to have the same sort of magic as an anime if it has excellent paneling.
