The Glumslinger posted:I'm just thinking about how much heat those TVs would put out Yup, assume about 100w per screen between the 4k TVs themselves and the signal distribution hardware, plus who knows what the power draw would be for the the distributed rendering needed to push dynamic content at anything approaching an acceptable frame rate to a 23040x6480 display matrix. If you just wanted a static image or pre-rendered content it gets a little less power hungry, but if you're going to spend $100k on a bedroom, you should have the ability to display milkdrop at full resolution.

They were all so nearly identical.

Motronic posted:You may not be kidding, but you're certainly incorrect. He’s right, but it only applies for glass skyscrapers which have uniform glass panes which don’t open or move. The simplicity of doing that on an entire office building really does make it cheaper than the alternatives, and maintenance is probably less too. No structural requirements due to the steel frame. Apparently it doesn’t matter that they all have to run aircon constantly to remain habitable, and in the case of my office, buy special ultra expensive blinds so we’re not dazzled by sun half the day.

This is actually probably a hold over of one of those.....(can't remember what they were called) houses from the 1950s and1960s. There wasa time when folks would basically build a basement portion of a house live down there. Then, so many years later, add the "first floor". The plus side is, since it is basically 2/3rds buried, it is relatively energy efficient.

I think it's just something that happened when land was cheap but home constuction loans were expensive.

Motronic posted:How is the basement not the expensive part? This must be very regional. Definitely regional, certainly in deep frost regions you wouldn't build a house without a foundation below the frost line. At that point a basement is a marginal increase. The alternate now is a post tension slab, but I don't think it was very common then for homes.
