Ima gonna go with Grey / Anastasia from now on. Yes, I know the book is not actually about consensual kink but is actually about a very rich guy using positional authority to get a woman drunk a lot and doing poo poo to her that she’s not into. I’m just making a funny dammit.

While we wait for sfwarlock, I bring a small update from my previous job. According to student moles, and in the most technical of terms... "poo poo's really super hosed" Apparently the new Tech Coordinator has NO clue how to do anything tech related. They have lost control of emails. Upwards of 700 spam and phishing emails to every mailbox every day. They can't do anything because he somehow managed to push out an image of a decade old laptop to every network attached computer on campus. He texted me wanting to know "where in all these drawers you keep the Windows Disk?" He doesn't know what VLSC is. He doesn't know what AD is. He doesn't know what RADIUS is. He doesn't know... anything. And he has no desire to learn or figure it out. He has given up a week into this job. I made it 4.5 years. I am the record holder.

I don't know if I ever mentioned it, but we had an MSP (sort of, mostly consulting) on payroll for stuff. We paid them about $38k a year for 24/7 on-call. It was really cheap vs hiring another warm body to sit in the department. Anyways, they saved my bacon more than once. I told my replacement to use them every possible chance. They're an invaluable resource. He hasn't called them once. dragonshardz posted:(Also I had the WEIRDEST moment of joy on larches' behalf reading that.) An (internal) EEOC investigation into Boss^4's conduct came in. I was asked to meet with the investigator today and a lot of my answers were along the line sof "I have not personally witnessed, nor heard secondhand, that particular behavior, but it would not surprise me." Boss^4's tenure also coincides with a lot of HIGH EXPECTATIONS (that are poorly communicated) and treating people differently based on their job title rather than their actual job skills. So...we'll see how things shake out!

Arquinsiel posted:There needs to be a word for that sense of satisfaction you get when you leave a place and hear that you were the only thing keeping all the tech running. I hope this has sent your confidence through the roof larches. Honestly, at this point seeing my entire old life quite literally going up in flames (there was a fire, but I gotta ration these tales, ya know) doesn’t fill me with all that much satisfaction. Just a really deep sadness that I spent so many years in a series of the professional equivalent of abusive relationships. None of that was made more evident than working for a place that actually appreciates me. I’ve gotten so many compliments for my work this week. I’ve had people I haven’t had much contact with checking in to see how I’m settling in. I had a client get pissy and begin purposefully misgendering me and they were officially off-boarded within, like, half an hour of my bringing it up to the owner. It’s the very opposite of everything I’ve experienced in the last 15 years of being in this industry and it’s really helping me to actually appreciate myself. Who ever would have thought that internalized disappointment is so heavily motivated by external relationships. Anyways, point being I am powerful and unstoppable and I am flourishing.
