anyway, what do you think about good sizing for a piece over the sofa?

The outer black square is 48x48, inner is 36x36, and the blue one is 36x48 horizontal.

I feelike the 48x48 goes up too high on the wall. This is centered at my eye level.

It's a bit abstract and bland honestly, have you thought about buying a painting or print instead?

Normally I think that would work really well. But the seam in your couch is off-center so there could be some kind of balance conflict there? I dunno I'm no expert, but I think having symmetry and asymmetry right over each other could end up a little chaotic.

that's a good point - I should say that at some point I will be getting a regular sofa without that issue but it's a good thing to think about. It's off-center because it's a sofa-chaise I assume.

I sent a few of these to the interior designer, she suggested that if I'm going to do those two, keep a white border and place them 2-3" apart.

I also sent her three single images that I liked after going through all the b/w stuff from minted, and she liked this one the best. It does add a new shape to an area that's all pretty much straight lines and 90 deg. angles.

this would be 40x30. I realized 50x40 would be pretty overwhelming once I taped it out.

My accent chair came in and... I'm a bit underwhelmed. I know the canonical Eames design has dowel or wire legs, but I wanted cleaner lines. In this case, I think I was led astray.

Maybe I should've gone for the dowel legs? I'm pretty sure I can exchange the base but there may be some processing fees involved.

Most places don't do 'used' high-end furniture, though you occasionally find it at hipster used furniture (sorry, 'vintage') stores. The problem is that you also find a lot of knockoff poo poo at vintage stores so you need to know what you're looking at already

So I've been meaning to subject the thread to some heavy maximalism and figured specific designers and other creative types would be a good place to starts. This is Michelle Nussbaumer

She's clearly into bold color, graphic prints, and maximalism.

But you'll notice that the rooms are not particularly cluttered.

The heavy use of print fills the space without having to put a lot of actual items in it.

And the color palettes are often actually fairly restrained.

bordering on monochromatic sometimes

Even when there is a lot of stuff, like in these pantries, there's a deliberate order that rewards examination of the details.

Also, for some reason, there are little flecks of dried white paint EVERYWHERE. What is the best way to remove them? I can scrape them off with my fingernails but there has to be a better way.

OK so this is going to perhaps be slightly embarrassing but i don't care. Looking for some design tips on wall hangings in two rooms of my house, which I moved in to last fall.

This house was built in 87 or so and honestly I want to embrace a little of that in a more modern way if possible. I thought the Sputnik light (see album) went well as an example.

More photos in this album:

https://imgur.com/a/RIdbWZD

Living room when i moved in i tossed down this grey rug and grey ikea art because I had it and it matched my last place. Grey doesn't work at all in here, I intend to keep furniture and probably this layout. Looking for thoughts on

1) What goes on the huge blank space to the right?
2) What should go above fireplace, and can it somehow tie in to the last one?
3) What colour rug would work better
4) What colour would work for a window bench seating, which I'd like to get?

And in another room, which is technically a bedroom but I'll call it a "den", is the possibly embarrassing part. Note that I'm likely re-carpeting this soon OR perhaps putting LVP in here and moving the rug from the previous room. This is obviously nerdy.

What can I put on the huge blank walll? Obviously this game is video gamey but Im not going to put a huge mario on there or some poo poo. Wall art preferred.

This may sound extra dumb but I am legitimately considering 70s/80s wood panneling, basement style, but only on this one wall. The main window faces south and it's quite bright. As you can see there's some 80s and older looking stuff in there already, like the lamp by the desk. I kinda want to go in this direction, but explore wall-art options for this. See album for more photos of whats in there, but its some arcade games and movie posters.
