Y'all, this has been an excellent basho. How loving wild would it be for Terunofuji to take the cup at his makuuchi return? Day 13 standings: code:

So there's a 5 way tie at 9-4 for the Juryo Yusho right now (as of the end of day 13), 4 of them are matched up against each other and Hoshoryu is about to fight Daishoho, who is 4-9. Heh.

I feel bad for Onosho but I also root against him in every bout. I just wanna see an anomaly, ya know.

Why did you have to do him like that? Hakuho being injured since day 4 and still looking amazing for a while is pretty wild, drat. I think he was trying to make up for it by going 100% on railroading and eventually he stalled out.

Terutsuyoshi is growing too powerful, stop him before it's too late. This is gonna be a close basho after all, whoever wins it I'm fine with, M17 comeback basho, Mitakeumi going for a strong Ozeki run or Asanoyama The Future Yokozuna building his resume, those are all cool.

So for the Juryo division, after day 14 we have 2 people at 10-4 and 6 others are 9-5, usually this would mean the two leaders would get matched against each other but they've already fought a couple days ago. Kyokutaisei (10-4) is fighting Daishomaru (7-7) Mitoryu (10-4) is fighting Hoshoryu (9-5) none of the 9-5 guys are fighting each other, this means that if Daishomaru wins and Hoshoryu wins, depending on how many of the other 9-5 guys win, we can have up to an 8 way playoff, holy poo poo.

Hell yeah gimme my 8 way playoff.Zedsdeadbaby posted:This basho is so loving good Hahahah I hadn't thought about that! Terutsuyoshi is like the Isegahama hitman this basho. That was such a beautiful leg pick, it was textbook. Harumafuji should be proud. If Teru loses tomorrow we're guaranteed at least one playoff. That said, I'm pretty sure I want him to win, because that's such an amazing Cinderella story. Day 14 standings: code:

Right down the bottom of the pecking order in Jonokuchi rikishi Hokuseiho completed his first basho out of Mae-zumo with a clean sweep of his division and was the only person to go 7-0 so congrats to him.

Huh...a Japanese-born Mongolian dude in Miyagino heya? Interesting, didn't know about him, 2 meters tall as well, lets hope he stays injury-free it would be nice seeing someone tower over even the other tall guys in the top division, though I suspect some of them (Hakuho, Tochinoshin, Okinoumi) might retire by the time he gets up there.
|
|
# ? Aug 1, 2020 19:33 |
Kagayaki is 193 cm, and Kotoshoho is 191 cm, so there will likely be a couple big tall guys in if it makes it to the top. Hell, Terunofuji is 192 cm, and he's also 180 kg. That's a big boy.
|
|
# ? Aug 1, 2020 19:40 |
Yeah, I only listed the ones I think will retire relatively soon, I think injuries aside Hakuho has a hard-out in 2 years when Miyagino-Oyakata reaches the mandatory retirement age of 65, and I suspect Tochinoshin will go back to Georgia whenever he's finally unable to maintain a spot in Makuuchi, maybe even before that. Okinoumi is a mystery, he's doing better than ever, but he's the same age as Hakuho so who knows.

Kaisei is probably gonna be out before that too, and he's 195cm/201kg.

when i started the stream shohozan vs ichinojo had just started. i was really confused why that was before the juryo plaoffs but apparently ichinojo could've made that playoff if he would've won so it makes sense. how would a 7 way playoff had worked anyway?
