Re: boogs, I had a very excited boog boy, maybe 20 or so, come through my Subway on the way to the Austin protest last night. No mask but the first thing he did was apologize for being awkward because of his sweet flak vest and gloves, then ask if I knew what the boogaloo boys were and stage whisper "I'm with them!" As far as I could tell he wasn't openly armed.

He was very clear that he wasn't a white nationalist and none of his friends were and that white supremacists were dumb, was pumped to talk about the class struggle and how the welfare state has created a permanent underclass and then not given them enough to survive, and declared that cops were the enemy of everyone and must be destroyed. Denied that racism was the core issue but if I'd spent about two more minutes explaining why weed is illegal and gun laws are so inconsistent he might have gotten the point.

Surprisingly coherent for a boog, definitely libertarian and not alt-right, and probably could be swayed pretty quickly. I guess even some of the dumb kids are okay.

If alt-righters sunk Patreon, they are going to make more enemies than friends.

Artists and people who use that site aren’t going to get 100% of their monthly subscriptions back because not all of their audience is going to make the jump to Subscribestar or whatever place they go.

It is mostly crap, iirc. Patreon got a lawsuit from a bunch of followers of a podcaster or something that was banned. Patreon thought they were in the clear since arbitration clauses were in place so they were not prepared when 100+ fans filed for the arbitration. Patreon then tried to get all the arbitration claims wrapped up into a class action lawsuit and that was denied. Due to the way the arbitration agreements we written (or possibly california law) Patreon is on the hook for the arbitration fees and they are doing their best to squirm out of that.

Best case scenario would be companies no longer including forced arbitration clauses, but i know that won't happen.

HAHA YEAH HE PEED IN HIS OWN MOUTH I'M GONNA KEEP BRINGING IT UP.

It's some dumb counter-counter-counter sue magic law nonsense. They think they can bankrupt patreon if they all try to sue them.

It's going to end with patreon coming out on top and these idiots with nothing to show for it.

Owen Benjamin rounded up about 100 people who volunteered to be represented by Marc Randazza and individually demand arbitration with Patreon for tortious interference (alleging that Patreon banned Owen specifically to damage his contractual obligations between him and his individual fans, and not for any other reason). About 72 of them followed through, and Patreon counter-sued them, saying that it should be a class-action suit instead of 72 individual arbitrations, but the court disagreed with their request for a preliminary injunction. The main problem Patreon will have is that it has to front the costs for all these identical arbitrations due to California law; the whole "tortious interference" thing is a crock of poo poo, but Benjamin and Randazza just want to use vexatious litigation to blow up Patreon

youd think this would fall under anti-slap or whatever its called, since its such an obvious example of abusing the law.

if patreon wanted the protection of slapp laws the would have not included already abusive arbitration clauses

Can you get named a vexatious litigant from arbitration because it sound like a bunch of internet schemers are about to leave a huge pile of evidence laying around.

The threshold for vexatious litigant status is a lot higher than one request for arbitration, it's like a pattern of years and years of filing suit against anyone who looks at you funny, or against the same person over and over

ianal but this guy seems to think it's at least possible, based on the terms of service, that patreon can try to recoup some of the costs if the claims are tossed by arbitraters for being frivolous. so the patrons may end up with some skin in the game if they want to proceed.
