The "cancer awareness" charity the money goes to is pretty lovely and has a history of waste and being audited, it's kind of inexcusable how married they are to it when SDGQ and other speedrunning fundraisers go to much better and effective organizations without issue.

Of course they're married to it; they're just as corrupt and mismanaged. GDQ has gotten steadily worse over the last 5 years, the organizers are pocketing thousands from sponsors, and I fully expect the guy running it to be outed for inappropriate behavior towards trans speedrunners.

If I can find the links again I'll post em. I recall some reasonably convincing evidence a while back that just got swept under the rug because the person(s) who compiled it had some loose connection to someone who was previously banned from the event.

It�s mostly based on salty speed runners not being able to say the n word at gdq anymore. A bunch of toxic people have been banned over the years and they then run around spreading rumors, and some people choose to believe them absence the smoking gun of Mike uyama flying around on a private jet. Pcf is a fine if mediocre charity that has a b+ from charity watch.

Also lol trans people are stalked and ridiculed by the same groups that claim to know all these terrible things about gdq, and they are given huge visibility at the events as announcers runners and couch participants.

From what I understand of that event the couch guy was all "Hey it's my birthday, can I sit on the couch? Please!" And the staff were all "Eh, okay, sure." He then proceeds to be aggressively awkward until the runner finally shuts him down. For obvious reasons the runners now set up the couch ahead of time with people they know.

The events are absolutely amazing if you're the kind of person who adores painful nerd cringe, and that's before you look into the poo poo that happens behind the scenes.
