Small arms fire just makes tiny pop/crackles when it's set on fire, to the point where it's pretty unimpressive and even hard to catch on camera audio unless you're right next to it. Those definitely seem like fireworks

Always with the negative takes? Why wouldn't you instead see this as an excellent investment opportunity in real estate, half of the demolition is already done and now you just have to level the rubble so you can start building hotels and casinos on top! Turn those lemons into lemonade and I'm sure some of it will trickle down to the locals!

There was some kind of very explosive material stored in a warehouse in a port that somehow caught fire. There was a big boom, and people started recording the aftermath from nearby buildings. Then an even bigger explosion occured killing tons of people in a pretty wide radius including some of the people filming. It's pretty awful to watch. I remember that one, that was pretty bad.

I have a feeling this is going to be a hell of a rallying cry against Lebanon's broke rear end government. Judges were told several times over by customs officials over the years that this was a disaster waiting to happen and the ammonium nitrate needed to be sold or exported or something, and nothing was done. As recently as 6 months ago port authority said that it was a dangerous situation with the climate and the conditions, and that it had the potential to blow up Beirut. Add in that it was all shoved in bags in a warehouse right next to fireworks storage, where they evidently decided to let men weld, and it's a goddamn cocktail of incompetence. 2,700 tons compared to the 2 1/2 tons used in the Oklahoma City bombing.

yea Israel clearly had nothing to do with this but I do love the coy 'why would so many middle eastern sources think Israel would do something to hurt their best friend Lebanon?! Must hate Jews...' some of the people take on it. You can just say 'nah this super clearly seems to be a tragic accident, no need to blame any outside source on it'.

Yeah, I mean, I saw a giant explosion in Beirut and my first thought was "Israel". I dont believe that now as the facts have come out, but it's COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE as that is a reputation they built themselves through their own actions.

A whole bunch of it was reportedly sold off over the years - again, there are estimates that it was down to as few as fifty tonnes by the time it blew. It's just that it takes a long time to find buyers when you've got that much nitrate to sell.
