There are 4 types of video games, which I will name Category A, Category 1, Games for Sundays, and Category Prime. All Category A games are Category 1 games, but not all games from Category 1 are Category A games. Games for Sundays include all games for slimers, nerds, punks, puke punks, lunch men, and peekers, except on Mondays and every other Saturday when most games for peekers phase into Category A. Most Category Prime games are internet enabled, but not being internet connected does not preclude a game from being a Category Prime game. The obvious exception is if the game is a Game for Sundays, except for if it's a Monday or alternate Saturday, when certain Games for Sundays cannot be played on the internet and therefore become a Category A game.

Played through the Bioshock collection. 1&2 are fairly mediocre imo, but they have a nice art style and the twist in 1 was fun for the time. But Infinite. Holy poo poo what a bad game. Insanely dull and repetitive shooter escorting a Disney princess around the Racism Theme Park, and despite being literally the Zybourne Clock, the story is incredibly up its own rear end. The ending is you getting drowned by a dozen Princess Tittybabys to stop the villain because, uh, lmao quantum physics or something. Terrible

I wish they'd done a bit more with the theme of guilt they touched on. Booker and Comstock are both defined by what happened at Wounded Knee, Booker becomes Comstock when he accepts the baptism and finds a reason to excuse the atrocities he was complicit in, and what started as forgiveness becomes a justification to commit even greater sins, whereas Booker becomes the Booker we know because he never finds a way to cast off the guilt and drowns himself (both metaphorically in his guilt and in alcohol, and then finally literally) But for the most part that's relegated to a couple of scenes towards the end of the game. I wonder if it would have been better to drop the big twist earlier in the game and let Booker come to terms with it rather than drop it at the very end in a big infodump.

Comstock is...Grandpa Racism I guess? Andrew Ryan was an obvious Walt Disney/Ayn Rand mashup but that worked pretty well. He was undone by his own ideology and it was satisfying. Comstock is just a crazypants zealot so far as I can tell. Booker is also there

Maybe it’s the drugs, the pandemic, or the cruelty of age, but video games just aren’t as fun as they used to be. I really wish I had more fun playing new video games. The only games that are fun now are games I’ve already played like Halo or Resident Evil or Diablo 2 or Final Fantasy 5 or Vanquish. I just don’t think video games are very fun anymore, and it’s kind of turned into a poo poo hobby in the past 5? 10? years. Why is a game about a goose loving with people the funnest game that’s come out in like a year? What are these companies doing? (Nintendo is p fun)

Because you've played lots of games already so new ones aren't going to be as good with such a big body of experience to compare it too unless they are radically better than what's come before, so now you have a small example of what wisdom (oldness) feels like. Also game dev has slowed way down since things got so big and expensive around the mid-late 00s they can't just try new stuff as much and hardware pushing games forward sort of hit a bottleneck so no more repeated leap forwards like the 80s to 2005. You can just keep having fun playing the old games and no one will care or do the normal thing for when something gets stale and try new game related experiences like playing more multiplayer or competitive gaming or board games or even trying to make a game. Or just do something else completely.

Yeah even the dumbest bullshit games are fun when you're young. Movies, too, are subject to a higher standard as you age Great games are still made, I actually returned to Hollow Knight a couple of months ago after giving up on Doom Eternal and I am looking forward to Silksong. I started playing Rimworld and it's pretty cool.

The game presents her as an escort, but she's actually invulnerable, even untargetable, and so she takes care of herself by ducking behind cover etc quite cinematically while you go about shooting people. And then she hands out medkits and ammo for your favorite gun (since that's what you've got equipped and are low on ammo for) dynamically in a way that seems to have sanity checks to prevent scumming. It's actually very, very well done and especially noteworthy compared to how many other gameplay gaffes the game suffered from. Like having a gargantuan weapon selection, with 2 pointless variants of each, but only 2 can be carried. And I think you have to sink upgrades into those guns? ugh. Or that dress-up equipment screen, with tophats and whatnot that give small bonus's. Except that they drop randomly each game, presumably to give replay value and 'build' variation, except for my playthrough the first four+ items where for the same loving slot so I couldn't use them for poo poo. Gods, how braindead. But yea, Liz as an escort was brilliantly done.
