The best thing, characterwise, in this comic, is not individuals but duos. The specifically bilateral relationships reveal aspects of the characters that elevate them both. That's why it's so hard to pick single favorites.

This is what keeps me coming back to Gunnerkrigg every week. At times the comic is painfully slow, but the characters play off each other so well. Coyote is a cool and unique character, sure, but where he really shines is the way he interacts with Ysengrin. Kat is best when she's around Annie, Jones works because of the way everyone reacts to her, the list goes on.

Now I can't help but think Cassidy's color being orange was already a reference to Orange Cassidy.

I get the wrestler part of the reference but who is the other part of the character?

Cassidy is a character from Sleepless Domain, her comic.

Referencing Cassidy in the same context as being too put together? What a cutup you are.

Why's Diego even on that list. Like, I appreciate how he's written but what kind of monster would call him one of their favorites.

With characters, a villain you "love to hate" is a real phenomenon for some.

Gendo Ikari is one of my favorite characters in EVA, favorite doesn't always mean that they're the person you think is the greatest or want to hang out with. It can be a character who reminds you of yourself in ways you don't always recognize at first or aren't proud of, it can be someone that makes you feel a certain way that other characters maybe didn't.

I voted for Cookie Monster and her friend because they reminded me of how we'd act toward our friends younger friends when I was their age, and for Hetty because her chapter was one of my favorites in the book and I kinda loved the way she was written as another demon trapped in a toy who might be more like what people thought Renard really was like for so long.

I don't think Diego is that either, though. He's too pathetic.

Oh boy, I just realized we might get to see the Norns in Kat-vision.

Will it be another dull facade or will it be 80s/90s anime as gently caress?

I think it depends on how illusionary their place is

The arrow & the realm of the dead she sees as plain, but Zimmy's realm and the Arbiter she saw as everyone else does.

Kat is escorted to a nursing home where three old ladies offer her a Werther's Original.

Things like that take a lot of time to even start getting off the ground.

Yeah. The news post in January was that a production company just signed the option rights. I think they have to shop it around to platforms and to studios, and then it starts getting made into anything other than a concept. A lot of things die in this stage, but we probably won't hear whether it goes anywhere or not for a long time.

It seems like a lot of animated projects (particularly reboots of '90s/early '00s shows) are getting greenlit these days because they're easier to get off the ground than live-action, but a new property from a new studio is still going to face an uphill climb.

I don't want them to have Gunnerkrigg. Maybe they can make Gaiman's Graveyard Book instead, or listen, just steal Harry Potter and send a letter to Universal saying they aren't interested in judges and they can only be stopped with violence. Then Netflix reboots the series and changes everything that sucks, such as all the characters.

e: nm a Graveyard Book movie is already in development hell. Hijacking HP is the only way forward.

I think Gunnerkrigg could be a fantastic cartoon. Shows like Hilda and Gravity Falls are so good, and they have a similar vibe.

It's going to be weird for the characters to actually have British accents though. I know intellectually that they do, but I just can't read them in my head that way. That will probably change if I watch a cartoon version though.

I, Giorno Giovanna, have a dream!

I can see where Gunnerkrigg has similarities to Harry Potter, but not really to Star Wars, and it certainly doesn't fit with this:

quote:

"We're looking at big, broad-audience, PG-level adventure films as something that we want to get into," Nagenda told The Hollywood Reporter. "Something along the lines of the first Star Wars, or Harry Potter 1 and 2. A lot of family live action, fantasy, spectacle movies that we think are big and can play great. A Jumanji-type of story. That is the next frontier."

Well, only most of them do. Two are French, one is Spanish, and one should be very American.

Also, this bit makes it sound like they aren't interested in an adaptation:

quote:

When asked if this would put Netflix into greater competition with traditional studios, Nagenda responded, "Well, we look at it as what aren't the studios focused on. New ideas. We want to encourage great talent to think that way. George Lucas created Star Wars — it wasn't based on a book. If you have that kind of imagination — like the Wachowskis with The Matrix — we feel like we're the place to take the chance on those types of innovative ideas and filmmakers."
