Animal Crossing has sold 22M and is still going strong.

Can't wait for the stock market to shrug at this like they always do with Nintendo!

quote:

Gaming giant Nintendo posted a five-fold jump in profit on Thursday (August 6).

Demand for its Switch device and a hit game during the global health crisis saw Q1 profit jump 428% on the year.

The title 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' sold more than 22 million units since being launched in March.

Nintendo also sold just over 5.5 million Switch units in the first quarter.

In total, operating profit for April to June was $1.37 billion - more than double analyst predictions.

The Japanese firm kept its sales forecast of 19 million Switch units in the current financial year.

Digital game sales were another success for Nintendo as they more than tripled.

56% of sales came through download in the first quarter, compared to 38% a year before.

Gaming has been one of the few business winners of the lockdown era.

Nintendo rival Sony also posted a sharp rise in sales for its PlayStation 4 console earlier this week.

The news algorithms seen to have broken on CVNA today, they all seem to be talking about how the stock is "falling" on missed earnings and warnings of inventory shortages.

Meanwhile its up 20%.

I hadn't checked them out before - they do have a pretty slick interface and promises of quick no haggle delivery to your door. I put in an alert on a few cars. But this 35BB valuation seems a little crazy.

What does valuation even mean when you just move numbers around on a computer and create trillions of dollars whenever you need to? What does “33 billion dollars” actually represent?

just imagine when SPY touches 340 intraday

there will be a big sell off, but then the next time it passes 340, if coupled with some good vaccine news ... FOMO FOMO FOMO, this train has no brakes

The notoriously high margin business of selling used cars justifies that market cap, or are we supposed to value them as a "tech" company rather than a used cal dealer? I've heard a lot of rumors of shadiness involving Carvana and their relationship with DriveTime, but nothing concrete. They do seem to have some deal with Tesla where they list used Teslas at insane prices (higher than brand new versions of the same car) and then leave the car always in a state of limbo on their website, but that's all I know about that.

Carvanas prices kinda suck, but they offer much lower interest rates than advertised once you lock in a car, which is probably some kind of sales tactic to get you to impulse buy once you see your monthly payment is lower than expected (lol). They also have some holes in their search that allow specific trim models of cars to slip through the cracks and wind up at lower prices than they should be, if you know to look for it.

I live a mile or two from the Carvana and DriveTime headquarters in Tempe and have interviewed with Carvana (microservices!). What have you heard about their relationship?

You're definitely paying a premium for convenience (click a button and a car gets delivered to your house) but a lot of people are willing to do that. Just in my small circle I know of two people who bought their cars through Carvana in the past year.

I'm still down about 70% overall but made out with 290% gains on weekly FB calls after hearing the renewables news. Didn't want to post til the digital ink dried on the sell order. And I could've gotten even more!

Holding BABA calls into next week for earnings after that American firewall news tanked it this morning. Made up all the lost ground and then some.

Anyone know what’s happening with UAVS? It was sort of exciting yesterday morning but not so much today. Anyone still waiting on their news or reports or whatever was supposed to be exciting?

FreelanceSocialist

Here's a good rundown of the recent UAVS stuff. The tl;dr: is that not much is going to happen with UAVS in the near-term and the warrant offering was a cleverly-spun nothingburger. There's a corporate update call coming up on August 18th. I still have a couple hundred shares of it - half of my original position - but I think I will be stuck with it for awhile. I sold half of my holdings when it bounced off of $3.30.

I think what we need to remember is that UAVS is kind of a Nothing Company. What “deal” could amazon be working with them on? What does amazon need from them?

Some extremely stupid decisions during and after the March crash, like betting all the way down that tech would go up and then betting against the market from SPY 240 to SPY 285. However, I've got a large short position against a bunch of companies right now in the hopes that we see another pullback. And I'm offsetting that bearish mindset by picking pennies up in front of the steamroller with extremely short term calls on tech since nothing makes sense and everything only goes up. I'm a total amateur, lost a lot of money investing in HMNY as my introduction to Robinhood in 2017, made it all back and a lot more riding the market up in late 2019, then lost all that with the aforementioned betting against the market both ways. I've been following this thread for a while now, you guys are a great resource. I just hope to make back all the money I wasted betting against the Fed.

There is most certainly not gonna be a fiscal bailout deal tomorrow in the US.

I don't see how a deal gets done in the first half of next week, either. These people love brinksmanship. It seems the market gonna have to tank all the way to, gosh, SPY 310? before a deal is done. Dems don't feel any pressure and R's would prefer if stimulus happened like 4 weeks before the election so people don't forget about the checks. What a mess. Nevertheless it's interesting seeing all the relevant quotes come out on @FirstSquawk / @LiveSquawk and seeing /ES react.

If you're going to compare unit sales of hardware and software then you need to acknowledge that they've combined their console and handheld businesses into one device. e.g. at the height of their hardware sales they were selling over 30 million DS units and 20-25 million Wii units a year, and now they sell 20-25 million Switch units a year. So you see a lot of cherry picking one half of the business, like in this tweet comparing Switch software sales to 3DS software sales, that ignore this entirely.

I've been lurking this thread for a while, thanks to whoever tipped TUP last week. In other news my tech has taken a brutal beating today. I'm long on ATVI and grateful that I rolled some profit out of it yesterday because OOF. Only things showing good for me are ICE, ZM and uhhhh... Yeah. Even SLV is being lovely today. I tried to get in on the GOOGL dip yesterday but it didn't fill. I think I'm grateful for that.

MSFT being poo poo I guess has to do with the TIKTOK/Tencent shenanigans, I figure.

Mainstream Tweeters are saying ZM 300 in September? Sounds suspect to me.

You don't have a stake in future products by owning the laptop and AMD more finally woke up and is looking to not only be on equal footing but possibly become market leader in both video and CPU. It is not the case at the moment but that speculation is what is driving AMDs price up.
