Only the GOG version has it. And there's some legal workaround they had to do whereby it can only be distributed using the original CD image, initially they released with .ogg files then had to pull it a day later

Wow the Bethesda launcher is a piece of poo poo. Is Quake 2 still worth a playthough after I finish 1? I know it's basically a completely different game in almost every way other than FPS.

It was the first id game to attempt realistic environments which led into each other, and therefore it lacks the crazy non-euclidian nightmare levels of Quake 1 which is a shame. The soundtrack is absolutely banging though. Overall, I think it has dated badly and a lot of the enemies are frustrating to fight, but if you're intent on playing every mainstream id game then there are worse ways to spend a few afternoons.

Thanks. I’ll probably get to it. I do want to play every classic id game. I’ve pretty much spent a lot of quarantine going back to seminal classic games I’ve missed.

Quake 2 is kind of the direct link to all the retro shooters coming out. There’s a narrative but it’s inconsequential, it’s not abstract but still arcadey, and a lot less focused on secrets and power up management. It still has power ups but levels aren’t really built around them. It’s not as clean as pre-Quake games but not as complex as Unreal/SiN/Half-Life games, it’s a weird middle ground but perfectly serviceable.

That actually sounds kind of interesting. I’ll definitely give it a shot.

So I've been doing some late spring cleaning and just found a cache of old PC game discs... ranging from the mid 90s to the mid 2000s. I don't want these, and they aren't really worth anything monetarily, but I hate to toss them. These are all just jewelcases with discs, no big boxes:
- Half Life GOTY
- Opposing Force
- Blue Shift
- Jedi Knight 2, and Mysteries of the Sith
- Jedi Outcast
- Heretic Shadow of the Serpent Riders
- Hexen, and Deathkings
- Doom "Collector's Edition" with Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom (DVD sized case)
- Unreal Mission Pack 1 Return to Na Pali
- Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition
- Spectre VR Classic (1994)
- Command and Conquer Collection - Renegade, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge
- Icewind Dale, and Heart of Winter
- Divine Divinity (discs only)
- Age of Wonders
- Freespace 2 (has some very light disc scratching, the cardboard slip it came in is not great)
- Outcast
- Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
- Stonekeep
- Star Trek Elite Force 2
- Quake 3 Team Arena (some scuffing)
- Sacred (Gold with expansion)
- Soldier of Fortune Platinum Edition (disc only)
- Daggerfall (disc only)
- Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition
- Neverwinter Nights 2 with the cloth map and "rings"... it has its original smaller box and 1 disc with it, and I don't know if that's all or if there are more.
- Antaeus Rising
- Realms of the Haunting (sealed big box)
- Age of Mythology and Titans expansion
- Deep Space Nine: The Fallen
- Alpha Centauri

For the true masochist that wants to play it for us and post screenshots, I also have a disc of what might be the worst unofficial Quake 2 expansion: Juggernaut.

Anyway, if anyone wants some/all of this PM me and I'll figure out how to get it to you.

Strikethrough items are claimed.

My main beef with blood despite it easily being my favorite build engine game is the balance is all over the place. Cultists probably do too much damage for how many of them there are and how quickly they react, and stone gargoyles and the giant spiders have way, way, WAY too much health. I have no idea what you'd do with them if the Tesla gun wasn't incredibly overpowered. The lifeleech also just feels kinda lovely but maybe that's just a fresh supply thing, but when I played it in a different port it still felt pretty underpowered.

The trick against stone gargoyles is to use the voodoo doll, they are extremely weak to it for some reason (and honestly I never find the voodoo doll very useful against anything else). But yeah they are a pain and the game uses them way too often.

Quake Live seems dead for my region. I have to play on east coast servers to get a game. Champions seems more populated now.

Tried Diabotical and it’s such a reskin of Quake 3 that it just turned me off on it. If it gets the arena shooter genre bigger again than I’m all for it though.

How's Wrath: Aeon of Ruin looking these days? It's on sale again and I'm wondering if I'm better off still waiting or if there's enough good stuff there already to be worth the 20 bucks.

Started on Quake. I'm digging it a lot more than I have in the past, already on E2M2. Ziggurat Vertigo was the obvious highlight so far, the combat's crunchy and meaty while still having actionable dodging and reasonable projectile setups like in Doom (I'm playing with Copper, which does affect the ogre firing arcs.)

It’s alright. Four (of planned fifteen) large levels, decent variety. Definitely more of a buy for the future.

Jesus, the Wrath: Aeon of Ruin announcement must have gone really really well. They had a boxed copy with a bunch of physical doodads in it with a limited run of 500 copies for 100USD, and they sold out instantly. $50k influx in a single day for a product already certain to release seems pretty drat good, lots of winners there.

For a split second I thought it would be about Tintin-style textures and wondered how ligne claire would translate to textures. I guess mostly flat coloring, no baked-in shadows, but relatively precise details.

Action Doom 2: Urban Brawl is probably the closest thing I can think of since the Doom engine can’t do dynamic shadows, even though the art style is closer to whatever Jet Set Radio would be called. XIII has too many gradients.
